Electrical issue

My brother has a 2003 Renegade and all of the electrical components quit working (gauges, hand warmers, etc.) but the sled runs fine. I think the lights are out also but would have to ask him again. I am thinking some kind of ground issue. Any ideas? He does not have the repair manual or wiring diagram.

Madcow 11-28-2008 02:31 PM

could be ground, but if everything quit at once there might have been a bad wire in the lighting stator? maybe an inline fuse somewhere? something come unplugged?

He lives in Colorado so I am trying to help him over the phone which makes it more difficult. Went on Doo talk and this seems to be some what a common problem. They are talking about the voltage regulator or some relay by the fuses. I am sure he will figure it out. He needs to before January. Thanks for the suggestion.

Voltage regulator baby!! Check and see if the casing has crators exploding all over it. On Poo machines, normally over on the right foot well.

Ya on the polaris they are usually on the right side where he said.. But on my doo 440x its actually up on the bulkhead on the right side. Its kinda by the steering arms and almost under the engine.

if they have a relay them are easy to check, fuses are easy to check. voltage regulators can go goofy. on polaris when they go bad the lights get burnt out and the hand warmers work the best.

Thanks guys. I'll have him check.

It was the relay. $11.73 to fix.

thanks for letting us know!

Glad I read this thread, gives me a lot of insight as to what my problem is.

Madcow 12-02-2008 02:17 PM

For an old man you do have some good ones. LOL

Vertical_Escape 12-02-2008 03:07 PM

Yeah but now he's done for the month, only good for 1 shot every 30 days.

OCR 12-03-2008 09:29 AM

Nah, just been busy and not posting much. More lurking and the occasional sniping.

BTB Vert, have you found the problem yet?

Vertical_Escape 12-03-2008 09:56 AM

Haven't took time to look into it yet. Took sled on a little spin last night just to get the jetting adjusted for this altitude, not really enough on the ground yet to get serious about riding .

After the above posts, that regulator is sounding more and more like the culprit. I'll check it this weekend ..... or at least find it and get part numbers for it.
