I hate points!!!!!!

Just bought a 78 suzuki ds80 for my son. I was told all in needed was rings due to low comp. I checked it is low. About 75psi. I checked for spark. It seemed very weak so I tried cleaning the points through the flywheel. I don't have a puller to do it better and now I have no spark at all.

what did you clean them with?check to see if the point is staying open

I couldn't find my points file so i used a flat blade screw driver. I can see the points open and close.

An emery board would have been better to use than the screwdriver.
You will now have to replace the points.

thats what im thinking and maybe the condensor

Do it all while it's apart.

Well I was able to get a flywheel puller today and pulled it. There is alot of dirt buildup on the magnets. I also got some 800 grit sandpaper and cleaned the pionts better. I checked resistance all the way to the coil to make sure there wasn't a brken wire. How do I check the condensor? It is proving difficult to find one. Also hot to you check the coil to see if it is working? I want to make sure everything is working for my son. Thanks Josh

If it had spark before, it should still have it.

Thats what I thought.

cleaned up the mag and set the points and I now have better spark thank when I first got it.

to test a condenser you put it on a tester and charge it up then leave it lay around for some one to pick up. if the yelp it is good, if the yell and curse it is a really good one!
