No Spark In 340

hi Guys,
wondering if anyone knows where you can buy new wires and coils for a 75 polaris 340 colts s/s??? Having a hard time getting spark,. thanks,
Mike

You check ebay? Besides that craiglist or maybe some one here or another sled site could have the part your looking for.

Gotmud 10-26-2010 12:14 PM

Wow I wouldn't even know where to check. I'd assume ebay and maybe a vintage sled site?

Ibreakstuff may have some insight? Otherwise ebay and vintage sled forums

Clean you points. They suck balls on that engine.

OCR may have another idear.

I would start with cleaning the points first as they do get a bit corroded from sitting. If you still have no spark then unplug the main harness and see if you get any then.
Then and only then will you need to consider if you should replace points and condensers.
You should be able to get them at any small engine shop that uses Parts Unlimited.

word to the wise MAC.....along time ago they used that spark checker that was like an icepick....i've seen many o sled that had that used on with no spark...what happened is that icepick put little teensy holes in the plug wires and then water got in.....done for....id change the wires first or PLUG BOOTS....this usually fixed em all....you did take out plugs and and put one in a boot and set it touching the engine then pulled cord to see blue spark??????...check both as sometimes its only ONE PLUG BOOT or WIRE....you can dry out wires and silicon (little holes) them to save money but sometimes they are too far gone if it sat outside

hi zlzebub,
i did try one cylinder at a time with the plug pulled out and one cylinder does get spark and the other doesn't. I will try to find a new plug boot, but it is one piece from the coil? to the boot, so i would have to find a complete unit. I will pull them out and see what i can find, thanks,
Mike

You can replace just the ends if needed.

My sled only has spark on one side, did you ever figure out your problem. What benefit does one get by diconnecting the harness when looking for spark. I cleaned my points as well and the external coils are working the way they should. Can you just replace the internal ignition coil?

OCR 12-20-2010 04:17 PM

Yes you can.

orchie18 12-21-2010 10:38 AM

there was a bad spot on the red wire coming from the pick up coil...works good now thanks for the help

ibroke_ibought 12-23-2011 09:27 AM

i dont have spark either same sled 75 Colt ss 340

I can't upload pics using my phone but I'm not getting spark out of either cylinder and if you look at the inside of the flywheel there are these cast finger type things I don't know what they are called but they are connected to a spring and open up somehow and get a connection. Ill try and get some pics up but I have two of them and one is broke somehow. I wanted to have someone CNC me a new one but they are stamped out. If you have any idea what to do I'm open to all suggestions.

I believe points are pretty similar, should be able to take the good one out and take it to NAPA or some other parts distributor.:thumbss:
