90 jag backfiring??

my friends 1990 440 jag afs is backfiring at idle. well it might not be a back fire since its not that loud.

the idle is set at about 1800 rpms and when it back fires the rpms jump up to 2000 and then it drops back down to 1800 until it backfires again.

it dosent backfire above 3000 rpms, so it actually backfiring or is it something else? thanks

Rough idle, carb cleaning is always in order first.

carb is clean, found the problem, it was a bad plug. put a new one in and she runs like brand new

^^^This is why I told Rubi to swap plugs. I've had plugs do some pretty interesting things.
