Help my buddies 03 polaris 550 classic...

...uggh

So he got it to fire an rode it for about 20 mins. He left it sit and now its dead just sitting there.

So I have him check spark, and thats good, check everything over and thats good. I suppose I should remind him to check the fuel shut off (yes seriuously thats something I should remind him)

Anyways it will not run even with a little gas poured down the plug hole.

I personally think the needles and seats are shot and its flooded really bad.

However he says he cannot find a crank case drain? I have no idea on this motor, I really dont. But I thought they were pretty standard on the Poos

thanks....

There are two little brass plugs, one underneath each exhaust port(they're rather small and hard to see while the motor is still in the chassis).

Turn the fuel off, try to start it for a while and then leave it sit if it doesn't start, probably for an hour or so. Then turn the fuel back on and try again. My sister's 488 had bad neadles/seats so every time it sat for a while it would really load up and be a pain to start. So now whenever she stops she has to shut off the gas.

if you cant find the drains, pull the plugs and let it sit (with fuel of) and it should help to evaporate it out.

after he trys to start it are the plugs wet or dry?

Well he finally found the crank case drain plugs and they were full.

So after 3 days of me telling him to change the needle and seat - he realizes its the needle and seat....LOL

Hopefully this fixes it up. He is new to sledding and is getting frustrated already. Sucks i live 2 hours away, I could have had it done in 30 minutes.

Well at least you know he'll be up and running again soon. Give him tons of shit lol.

Kevin Garceau 12-23-2010 06:29 PM

LOL - I cant give him too much shit. He is a computer dude, and fixes all my puters after I get unexplained viruses from certain websites.

i go to other sled forums as well.
