98 XC 700 Ducati charging cdi conversion
Hello I am in the process of converting my 98 XC700 to the newer 2002 XC700 ignition/charging. My question is do I have to convert to the 02 carb rack with the tps or is their a way to bypass the tps? My oem carbs are dialed in perfect and I really don't want to convert them. Can I just.unplug it or can I jump it so the ignition/ timing works like it should? Any help or suggestions would be great

Unfortunately I really don't know how to help you. Interesting conversion, I'd never heard of it being done. Pardon my ignorance but what is the benefit? Wouldn't really throw a stronger spark so I assume the cdi box has different timing curve?

Back to the original question..... If you are converting your entire system then it will need to recognize the TPS settings(I hate tps), if not you will have issues. I again am unsure if you can 'fool' the cdi box into thinking tps is set at a certain perameter. So while I may have spewed a bunch of crap, I didn't really help at all lol. Sorry, hopefully someone can chime in with more knowledge with TPS.:beerchug:

Cannot buy the Ducati cdi/coil new anymore and the stators have issues as well. I have so much money tied up in the sled that I thought it would be easier to convert it to the newer more redily available parts. Just got burnt on Craigslist on a used ducati cdi and that was the last straw lol

If you've got the Keihin carbs on right now, even with them dialed in, you'd be much happier with a set of TM40's. Upgrade to a set of Mikunis with TPS.
