you can test the sending unit with an ohm meter, hook up the two leads and move the arm in the tank up and down. if the ohms move with the arm and dont spike high or low in any spot its good. you can ohm check the wires from the sending unit to the guage there should basically be no ohms. find a hot wire on the sled, like a head light power wire, usually yellow on other sleds. tap into that wire, with the gauge unhooked, if you touch the power to one post and the other post to ground the gauge should peg full or empty,
for the most part you have a power wire going into the sendor, then from the sendor you have a signal wire going to the gauge, on the other side of the gauge you should have a ground. if you have 3 wires at the sendor on the tank one of them should be brown, that is a ground, for the most part on sleds brown is ground, yellow or red is power and black is ground or signal.
