Looking at the old topics, Vert seems to be the only one really posting here. I guess he's the only one that actually lives in the mountains but still, stop slackin fuckers.

Ahhhhh its hard to talk about Vert when i reside in the Flat Ass Illinois and Iowa. I love watching the vid's of out west, but my old iron is impractical for that application. I love the ditchest and limited trails to much. Thats just me tho.

That storm would work fine stretched to a 136 which 1.5 lugs... Obviously not everything but it would do just fine.

What would be the reason for hill climbling? She is pretty hellish when i get that tripp all wound up.

If ya know how to ride they can be setup to do fine, obviously a 154 or larger 2" lug machine will do better, but those big long tracks are relatively new to the sport and lots was done with less before they were around. Big tracks just allow a poor to average rider tackle the powder. Same as anywhere else in sledding 80-90% rider skill and 10-20% machine. I've seen riders take stock 121" into deep and steep that are impressive and I've seen riders stick a new fancy rides in flat low powder.

The only reason i asked is that the cousins up around Iowa/Wisconson border used to climb ok hills in decent powder and tree riddled hills on a old SnowHare and the Scorpians. I just thought that a storm or rxl with a 136 would be ok for climbing and some powder. I kknow they are pigs(heavy) and my back will attest to that also. But the power is there to get r dun. I may be way off base. But i know with a stock 3/4 lug track i have a blast on a 133 in deep ass ditches with 4-7 foot deep snow. Just asking??

Bottom line Brian you will do fine with your stretched Storm. Will you get stuck here and there hell yes! will those big long tracks get stuck again hell yes! Skill will be the defining difference. Knowing your skill level and your sleds limits will mean you will go much deeper and farther than the guy who just bought a new sled hops on and calls himself a mountain rider just because of the shiny machine. Can't stress that point enough... The rider is more important than the sled.

On your comment of weight there is not much difference.... about 60-70 lbs curb weight.

I've taken my 136" sleds places I didn't think I could get, it's possible. You have to work harder and dig out a few more times but you could get around and have fun doing it. Shit, Gerbil rode his 136" sled everywhere my rental mountain sleds went when I rode ID 2 years ago with him and Rubi. And Rubi sported his 121" while I rode his RMK lol.

I've never seen cuzzi climb anything with his M that Rubi couldn't climb on his XC, hell my 440 cna climb everywhere cuzzi has been in the UP with the exception of the stump lines between the trees.

Im so looking forward to this season. Im going to make at least one trip to Mi and Mn. Not sure on which sled i will take, either the storm or the rxl. They both havent let me down. Can someone explain why the extra 12 is bad for powder/getting off the trail. Im just getting my feet wet with these newer suspensions. The 12 will be on hte rxl and the 10 will be on the storm. I keep getting told the 12 will just dig trenches and havent been explained why or how Thanks ya'll. on both sleds will be 1.25 tracks at 136.

The x-12 suspention was designed for the cush ride in mind, as we all know. The reasoning behind the trenching thing, is the fact that the distance from the foot print of the track to the runnig boards is so tall, so when you hit the gas it naturaly squats all that distance down ward. Trenching is way more common with the 121 track and inexprienced riders.
I have a 121 with a M-10 and the STONES to ride it off trail (powder). It's like CW stated it's knowing your sled and the riders ability.

Correct me if I am wrong but as I understand the x-12 is a falling rate suspention and the x-10 is a rising rate. In laymens terms falling rate mean the geometry of the suspention makes it softer as it compresses and vice-versa on the rising rate. I think the M-10 is a falling rate also but they have built in a progresive rate spring and an anti bottoming spring to soften the big hits

I will just say that inexeperienced riders will more times than not, trench a sled no matter what they're on.

Well thank you sir Willie , that is the first time its explained, and now it makes perfect sence. Ive been enlighted by the leader of the "Go fast ol fart club"!! Now i gotta get the heaps put together. So i can roll with the BIG DOGS this winter. With the added expense of a clutch and tires, i will be making a winter trip up to Virginia instead of a summer and winter trip. But i will come ready to raise so hell and part take in some bourbon sippage and storie telling!! Yes sir,a good time will be had. Maybe talk the "Mud" and his new thing into coming also. How old you gotta be to join that ellusive club LOL

You fuckers get so worked up over the long track thing. I know the 153' is too much for the UP. I've thought about trading my 153" for a 141" Crossfire. I think that is a good overall length for out west and the UP. The 153" along with 163+ HP far superior M8 made UP riding less challenging.
