The buddies kids have some smaller 4 strokes for starter bikes. basically the same thing as an 80 cc two stroke class machine. they ride very well with a very good power band. easier to make the tight corners since you can just shift down and lug through, you dont have to slip the clutch.

If you are not mechanically inclined, the 4 stroke will destroy yah for repaires, with the 2 stroke, it's poppin' the cylinder off, new pistons/rings, quick break in period, and go out and beat it for another Summer!!

For friends that grew up racing bikes in cross country style races and general trail riding, the early 4 strokes did not fair so well. But the latest bikes made by the same company as the 2 stroke version. So not comparing yami to honda but yami to yami. the 4 strokes are a great bike for a person who wants to ride. if its your first bike there is nothing to relearn, just to learn, if you have had 2 strokes for 10 years, there is a learning curve to the new style of power and how it reacts different.

it also depends on what model. the smaller 110 cc and beginner bikes are rock solid and great. but the more strung out 4 strokes are having there problems. a big one is they are not lasting a lot longer than the 2 stroke, but to fix a 2 stroke is a piston from dennis kirk and you are good to go again, possibly 170 dollars on some rechrome. a 4 stroke is any damage to the valve train, plus a cam shaft, chain, timing gears, along with the piston and cylinder.

For the less intellegent that browse the forum... (race bikes)

2 stroke = You toast the motor: common need's: piston, replate, and a gasket kit, possibly a crank if your really good a breaking stuff..

4 stroke = you toast the motor: Common needs: Piston, New cylinder, New valves, Cam, Timing chain, head and crank if your really good at breaking stuff...

2 stroke = about 300 bucks to rebuild (worst case senario - crank)

4 stroke = 800-1200 WCS - crank

can someone say OUCH?

Well, I be damned, madcow knows what he's talking about after all. The high strung fours, maintance wise, are trouble, on the track there are advantages but we can't all drive '99 machines and not worry about such nonsense.

hey no hot shot we wanna go with motor's blown, Alrighty.

SKS = 2 (if you count the first one as a blown motor)
Dirtbikes = 0
ATV = 0

Ole man:

SKS = 2
WR250 = 2
YZ490 = Um.... 7 maybe 8?
Scrambler = 1

little bro:

SKS = 1
Dirtbikes = 1
ATV = 1

Mom:
ATV = 1

I think your "Leading" in the blown motor count there chief...
