Default Installing Track Clips w/o the tool

Well i have a track clip tool that I borrowed from a friend but its not for a deep lug track... Question is - Is there any way anyone else has clipped the track before without the tool? I gave a quick shot doing it with vice grips and you would need forearms of steel to get it to close those clips... any other suggestions? Kitty is low this winter cant afford a deep lug tool - besides im selling next winter or end of this winter just need to do a good job not great! any hints/tips will help.

- More than 1 way to skin a cat i hope!!!
