Default 96 xlt touring 600 Triple

Have an oppurtunity to purchase a 96 XLT 2 up with X12 suspension.
Sled has about 2000 miles on it.
I have heard about possible crank drive issues with this year?
Never owned a triple, any thoughts

Thanks In advance

the 96 was the peak year for a bad crank press fits. but does it mean your will go out? depends on how it was ridin' and going to be rode. if you are jumping roads and landing under power, or constantly doing drag races hooked to the ice then yes at some point that crank is going to fail.

if the sled was used as a 2 up sled or just a trail cruzier then i doubt you will have problems. like any used sled, it might last 10 years or 10 miles.

Excellent information, the sled Im looking at is a 96 XLT Touring.
According to your information this one should be OK. Is there any modes I would need to do regarding the oil pump to the PTO bearing side?

Default I was wrong

The sled is a 1998 XLT Touring 2 up 2200 miles not a 96
Are the 98's excempt from the crank issue?

Default One more quetion

Thats great news on the 98 being dialed in, It has not been rode for the last 2 seasons other than putting around the yard, I will go through the carbs and clean them, Should I add some 2 cycle oil to the pistons and run it gingerly for a bit before driving it harder? Like my other sled I use it for trail riding and ice fishing.
