All of this sounds Oh so familiar. I am glad I bought 2 IQrs so at least I can get an idea of the ride. The 440 has did nothing but impress me. The main reason I don't have the 08 done is I have been playing with the 05 so much. With any luck I will have my ex-Gulla sled fired up and ripping before the snow is gone.
Lapdog, good luck with your search. I made the mistake of riding a VES800 converted 06 last year and spent the next month or so on my search. I bought a beat up 05/440 that was jumped all of its life. The engine was rebuilt incorrectly and needed the gaskets re-done. I paid little for the sled so I wasn't crushed when I found all of the little things wrong with it. A gasket kit, air rivet tool, some body and chassis parts, the great info from HCS, and I have had a smile on my face all winter. What a blast these sleds are. I thought my Pro-x was fun....
Mid summer I found a 2008 IQr that happened to be TJ Gullas 08 ride. I felt I paid a fair price for the sled. It was just a roller so my next challenge was a powerplant. I rode a few of the 2000 600 VES sleds in the Gen2 and Edge chassis. I was always impressed with the power of the little small block.
Craiglist came through in July with the purchase of a 2000 Edge 600. Pulled the pipe, engine, and electronics and sold the chassis for a fair summer price. I ended up with a complete 3000 mile engine for 500 bucks. Found a big tank, take off seat, and a converted AKIQpilot 440 pipe set up, and the build is on its way.....I thought. A new girlfriend then happened,,,,,,and the sled is still not done 6 months later.
