Josie the little yellow shop dog. She greets me every morning at work with a goobery tennis ball.
This was Wiener Dog. She was allowed everywhere in the house. She did not like riding in the backpack with the bro, but tolerated it just so she could come with. She also liked putting her nose in my pockets.
This was Homer Dog. He wasn't really allowed in the house except for his spot on a rug in my tiny entryway. He was especially not allowed on the carpet. But, I was feeling sick and sleeping prettymuch where he is in this shot (by the heater) and woke up with him snuggled all over me. No one got mad at him for it. Best friend ever
1997-2011, would have been 14 this fall. Kinda tough to lose one that's been around for that long.
Fall of 1997 we(my parents, sister and I) moved into a new house out of town, that same fall one of my aunts came by with a little black, white and gray Pomeranian puppy. My mom swore she'd never get a yippy little dog but me and my sister wouldn't let her say no, so we kept him. First few months involved a lot of bloody fingers and bite marks, and he's always been a fighter up to his last few years. When we wee trying to figure out a name we ended up calling my grandfather(maternal) who still speaks Finnish and ended up calling the dog Pikku, which is a word for "little" in Finnish. Some of the quirky things about this dog where that he wouldn't let anyone outside of the direct family touch him or he'd bite, except for my grandmother or anyone that looked like here, we never figured out hwy. But one time he actually jumped up onto her bed while we were visiting and slept on her pillow directly above her head like he was her hat. Another thing was that after a few years, this Black, white and gray dog turned reddish orange and white. I'll have to see if I can dig up his puppy picture still.
Anyway, he's been having issues for the past few years. Every few months my parents other dog(jack, a shepherd collie mut) has to put him in his place since Pikku would always nip and bark at Jack. A few years ago on one of their fights Jack got Pikku's right eye, half blinding him. And then lately, the past 4 or 5 years he's been having seizures, lost most control of his bowels and he's been losing teeth. So he wouldn't eat much and my parents would have to gate him up in the tiled bathroom overnight(he used to always sleep under their bed). He'd start barking at 5am every day to get let outside. We all knew he wasn't going to be around much longer, especially with the way he was acting after his seizures, he didn't know where he was and couldn't see straight so if he went outside he would just wonder off and sometimes ended up at the neighbors.
I guess this is getting kind of long so I should probably stop rambling. My sister made it home for Easter last weekend and stayed until Monday. Monday morning she let Pikku out and they haven't seen him since. In his current condition and with the coyotes and bobcats around there is no way he would be able to last two nights alone in the woods. What we're all theorizing is that he must have had a seizure after he got outside and wandered off in a daze and ended up passing from exhaustion, or he made it until night and something else got him.
It's not gonna be the same headin home without him there, and I know my Mom is still getting up at 5am expecting to let him out.
