Default Storm Clutch problems

I think I have posted something on this before, but I couldnt find it. My Storm is eating belts. It would usually move around just fine but at high speeds the belt will blow. Now it is having trouble just moving around. Bad motor mounts have been the suggested problem in the past, but mud checked and they were just fine. I am getting ready to take it somewhere but wanted to check what you guys thought first. The sled only has 1700 miles.

^^ He's going to want to after I lay some smack down with a 4stroker!

Last winter we did go over it and really couldn't find anything wrong. We checked alignment and motor mounts, both were good. We haven't pulled the primary or the secondary yet, that is our next step this fall. What else should we be looking for? I don't even remember how many belts he blew last year but it was at least 3.

What do you mean by "having trouble just moving around"? I thought there were no other symptoms just blowing belts? We never lifted the rear to make sure the track moves freely, I'm thinking we should after reading that.

If it just blows the belts at high speed, then I would be looking at clutch alignment under load. Does it have a torque stop/arm in it?

look on the front of bulkhead and behind motor on the secondary side. should be a plunger looking thing usually is adjustable. if its letting the motor twist to much under load the clutches would go out of alignment and cause the issue.
also if you pull clutches make sure buttons shims and bushing are good and correct. if clutches arnt opening symmetrically it could happen too.

I also agree with the alignment problem. I had a new mxz that did that my first year sledding. Under load it would destroy belts

Get a new Torque stop Harry, won't be hard to install.

crack a secondary button and the helix will bind & score fast with the lopsided pressure.

very easy to take a secondary apart if you have a BIG snap ring pliers. don't even get started with the cheap $2- ones they will bend and frustrate the living hell out of you!!
witness mark first with felt marker or pin punch to make reassembly faster.

primary on the machine check.. the 3 rollers turn free? no worn rub marks the with of the weight on them? one of mine came that way. made for a cheap purchase on one of my ultras!!

is it leaving any rubber residue on the clutches?

i would inspect the secondary and primary for bad rollers and buttons.

double check part number on belt to make sure its the right one.

It is leaving residue. The belt is a 1065, and unless leaders is wrong it is the right one.

If it were slipping that wouldn't blow the belt would it? I don't have an alignment tool, do I really need one to check alignment?

Slipping = heat = blowing belts.

No, you do not need the special tool, a straight edge [square] and a ruler will do
Lay the straight edge along the center of the primary and then measure the center point (offset) to the secondary.
Also check center of shaft to center of shaft [should be about 10.25"].

I suppose I have to go pick up your sled dipshit? Kind of hard to find the problem if neither of us have the sled.
