Default storm engine straps

When aligning engine and the engine straps need to be slotted, what is meant by that? opening up the rear slots for the rear engine mounts to make it easier to move or slotting the bolt holes and aligning the engine up then marking the straps where the engine needs to be bolted down?
i got all new motor mounts and unless its normal because they are new, the front ones go in hard! have to pry the front of engine up to fit shims (acting as the washer between the mount and bulkhead). having had the clutch off hear but know that the c-c distance is more than 12.5
