Yup.. found one on eBay for $45 plus shipping... I really don't want to wrap up too much more money in this sled... I'll drive it til she dies then sell it for junk or parts or something, and invest in another one at some point.

And the Saga ends. The local Polaris guy is going to come get it tomorrow and have it fixed before the weekend.. 4 new bearings and he's gonna give her a good once-over. My family has been doing business with his family for 35 years, so I trust the guy.

However, in trying to do all this myself, I have a real appreciation for how these machines are put together and work... I have so much respect for you guys and gals who can actually tear these things down and rebuild them like it's no big deal. Thank you all for your input and help, and I hope that the next sucker.. err.. victim.. err.. person who "invests" in a sled that near;y a quarter of a century old can benefit from this thread.

No worries.. I'm gonna stick around. I like it here.

Ever have one of those days where you're trying to post something on another website, and accidentally enter it into the website you're currently browsing?

Either that, or my pet bottle of Windsor has learned to type.

"Blue Thunder" is done and will be delivered today... although I think I need to rename her to "Blue Lightning".. holy friggin CRAP she boogie woogies.

The dealer replaced all the bearings, new drive shaft, new chain case cover, replaced the wear rods, gave me a key (ha!), new belt, replaced all my gas lines.. oh, and dropped the suspension for 2-up riding.. all for about $260.

I'd have paid twice that for the job they did. :-)

Until recently, the biggest/fastest sled I'd ever driven was my Dad's Sno-Jet 440 F/A... so I have no other 500's to compare her to... but with both the woman and I on board (we prolly push 420# or so), we hit 45mph with no problem and with plenty of throttle to spare..

Just don't tell her that.. I lied and told her we were doing 30mph.. ;-)
