I appreciate the thought Gerbil, but I have to try out my sweet mods before I give up on this chassis. Will be sporting SLP mohawks skis, 2in track and some suspension tweaks to see if I can turn this sub into a floater :P

There will be 3 or 4 of us, including the Great Red Beard from Florida who plans to rock the '92 Indy 500. But if he's lucky we'll upgrade him to a '98 Indy 500.

I'll probably wait another two or three weeks to start working on my shit and replace the base gasket that blew out last year. So I'll be scrambling at the last minute to piece thing together as usual.

Here's what I'm reading so far.

Minnesota crew: Gerbil, Rubi, Mookie and maybe a Baller
Wisconsin crew: Power, Rides in Jeans Guy, Great Beard, et al
Michigan/ Illinois posse: Mud, Ratstang, Stagsex

Any more coming? Gerbil, Mud and I have been to all the Group Rides. I think Olaf may have ridden with us every year too, except we missed him on the first two part ride. Is Olaf coming this year with no John Dee event scheduled? How about Jay? Breakstuff is due for a braap this year! Get him up there, you southern guys. How about a Texan representin'?

Mookie is going to be there all right! In fact, I've started intensive training! I participated in a DCUBA boot camp on Friday and then rode the shit out of my neighborhood on Saturday. My skills have already improved.

Here are a few of the improvements:
I'm starting my sled on my own,
figured out the digital gauge, and
even got my hand warmers dialed.

Plus, I can cross slope the shit out of flat surfaces!

Next week I'm going to find some tight woods and practice getting stuck so that Mitch has something to do while we're in the UP!

Might need to shop for shitty chili supplies too.

And make sure to keep it on high for 2 hrs, without stirring it.

Last week Mookie came up to DCUBAville and we did some sweet mods to his sled and then tested them out at Mookie training camp. I think the Mookster worked on hood vent screens while Gerbil serviced the chaincase and skid. I got a little welding in with my new welder when I spotted some long cracks in his y-pipe.
The last couple days I've been working on mods for Boonditcher II. This was supposed to be done prior to last year's Group Ride, but problems in the supply chain hindered my efforts. After addressing the stock seat and skis which didn't match my riding style, I had to do something about the slippery running boards. I budgeted for Skinz Airframes last year, but it never got done. I didn't really feel like spending the money this year since a bag of screw-in gripper studs would have easily solved my problems, but I justified the purchase by figuring I was ready to do it last year. Finding out there was only one pair of Indy Airframes available in the Country really lit a fire under me, and I ordered them up. Why not support my State's economy by ordering a locally built product?

Here's the stock stuff I had to chop off:

Here's how it looks now:

My hands were DEAD after pulling about 140 rivets:

After some ultra-aggressive garage testing, I decided I'll be happy with these boards. The grip is very good, and in side by side testing, I could definitely feel that the Airframes are way more rigid. I didn't really notice it before, but the stock boards flex.

I'm going out for some testing tomorrow. I saw a lone sled track in the ditch out by Menards today, and his trench looked deep. The north south ditches may have blown in quite nicely after our most recent snow event.

Looks like there's a good chance for another 'big' storm to roll through mid next week

The boards passed the test, but now I need more mods. I was doing some ultra-aggressive, semi-technical cornice cross sloping, and things went bad. Somehow the cornice broke and I lost traction at the same time. Only the skis and about 3 inches of track were still on top of the cornice and I was almost going backwards. I got the hell off of that sled real fast. I jumped off into the soft snow, and the sled flipped into the bottom of the ditch, landing bars first. I wrenched the bars back enough to ride home, but they're crooked enough to drive me nuts. Skinz boards are cool, so maybe I'll get some Skinz bars? Maybe Mookie could suggest some high performance aftermarket handwarmers?

Bring it up to the shop, I bet Darryl could make some sweet custom bars out of scrap iron.

Boards are bad ass!! Is it the bars that bent or the post? And I agree with the custom bars!

Extra shitty chipotle sauce and pretty burnt - you got it! Or, maybe I'll try harder this year and make it not completely suck.

I didn't take the camera out very often, and it didn't really look like many other people did either, but here's a few shots. I had a great time!
