Default Does anyone live in a scenic area that gets a lot of snow?

I was wondering if anyone has a nice view from their house and would be willing to do 2 things:

Install a webcam (I will supply it and help install it)
Be willing to leave their computer on 24 hours a day (some people already do)

I know JD covers a lot of areas but unfortunately nothing close to where I ride, and probably not where some of you ride. Plus it would be nice to see the early snow that some of you out west get.

I'd put one up but all you'd see is high school kids walking to school and throwing pop cans in my yard. If we have a good year I'll toss one up though. Aww better idea - I'll install one in the garage for my builds. I hope that welding doesn't destroy cameras....

So who's willing?

I'm in the southern snow belt on NY.
I'd do it.

If I had a better internet connection at home I would. Then you could all see first hand the sw mich lake effect machine.

Good deal, OCR.

Gotmud - are you dial-up? I can put something together that will just do a picture every 15 minutes or so - like a snapshot.

I wouldn't be apposed to the idea. I don't have a webcam though. I don't know everything I would need lol. If someone could give me a list of things to get I would be willing to do it. Maybe have it sign online and update a picture hourly?
Edit: yes I'm still dial up. :'( I do my web surfing at work because of it lol.

I can get something together for you, all setup automatically. Send a pic once an hour.

Hell ya I'm pumped about this.

Get your daddy to buy the camera ($15) and I'll "allow" you to display it here.

What operating systems are you guys using? I hope you're all running windows....and XP or above. For the people that volunteered, please let me know:

Your operating system
Internet connection.

After I find out what all of you are running I'll buy 3 to start with, and ship them to ya. Don't send me your address just yet, I'll need time to tinker and set it up here and make it as easy as possible on you.

Any other volunteers??

Good news:

This is going to be easy with anyone that has an always-on internet connection (DSL/Broadband/T1/etc)

Bad news:

Not going to happen with dialup, unless you leave your computer online all the time. But what I can do is have it update when you do connect, but not when it doesn't. So it will work but not be up to the minute. I'm fine with that if you are.

Yeah I guess I'm fine with that for now. I'll look into cable again. I know high speed became available to me last winter, but the initial price knocked me down lol. Hopefully it's come down a little in the last year. I know that nextel now has a satalite modem too, I'll also see if that's come down in dollas.

Our place over there got Cable last year too. It wasn't too much, except install that was through the roof.

I have a Sprint EVDO card for work - I think they're like $50 for the card and $40 a month? You're probably spending 15 for dialup as it is....

If you need to tell the wife that it's my fault you "need" broadband by all means go ahead and blame it on me!

I already told her I'm gonna install a webcam outside and look into cable internet. Hell you kidding she wants cable. I'm the one that doesn't want to buck up the money lol.

Side note: Thanks for the smileys lol
