Official Ak4life winter adventure thread....enjoy yourself bitches!
Well the tour continues, next stop Eureka Alaska. The town of Eureka is located 128 mi. NorthEast of Anchorage, if you are entering the the state by automobile and your destination is Anchorage you have to travel through Eureka. The town consists of a gas station/restaurant/bar combo and a few cabins and trailers total population has to be less than 20 people and is nearly above treeline. The mountains on the south side of the road are glaciated and to the north are very rocky. The tempratures in Eureka are really unpredictable, I have seen temps vary almost 50 degrees in a couple miles and few hundred feet of elevation. I not talking on the good side of the scale either, -40 to 10 above was the most dramatic I have seen there. Just be sure to bring your duct tape so you can take care of air leaks in your gear. Any horse power you might gain from the extremely cold and dry air are quickly lost from the rubber in your track freezes nearly solid. This is also another riding area in Ak that would take a life time to explore, you can even ride all the way to Valdez across the tops of the mountains from what I hear.
