Alright just making sure..

So should i be able to fire the engine up after tightening it down without putting a new gasket on? Well actually it uses o-rings but it also has that rubber gasket around it. Can i get good compression without new ones?

And what exactly causes bad comrpession, cuz the clyinders get scored, rings wore?

I need to know exactly what to look for so i dont buy something where the motor is junk or needs tons of money thrown in to it.

Ive heard the keihin carbs are kinda hard to tune, which it has the 39mm keihin, if they are hard to tune can i get some mukinis to throw on it? And can i use the jets out of keihins in mikunis and other stuff?

If the O-rings are in good shape (no flat spots or cuts), they are reusable.

Low compression can be a simple as a blown gasket.
And as complex as scored cyl, bad/seized rings. or holes in the piston.
A visual inspection will tell you a lot.

Thanks for all the info, it will help lots, hes already had the head off so it doesnt matter if i take it off agian to inspect the clyinders.

I didnt go today as he was busy and said he would be all day, hes going to give me a call back tomorrow and whenever he has time ill go look at it.

So if i pick the thing up ill get pics of it. Im planning on getting the ski doo too, i just dont have the cash for the both of them, whether i keep it or part it out i dono im just going to get it for the hell of it. Most likely the doo will be parted out, possibly fixed and sold whole. Just got to see what kinda damage it has to it.

Haha.. What was the link to bluebook on your sled for?

You would most likely beat me in a straight away lake race or anything like that.. Your triple will have that extra power.. It would still be fun tho..

This is a good deal, and it is faster than the 700. Well, I take that back. they are probably about even, but you will get better top end out of this.

Ah ok, ya i know the top end off a triple would be better, I dont think ill need that much top end tho, Ill do mostly ditch riding so even tho the twin isnt a whole lot lighter it will be a better sled for the riding i do i think.

Don't get mixed up, triples are fast out of the hole also. Like I said this and the 700 would be about dead even. This sled has a couple more ponies than the 700, put the 700 has the weight advantage.

Ya i would think they have some good low end as well as top end in a straight away.. It would be a fun race tho.. Get mx86 and ultra and everyone else to do the twin vs triple runs.

Well... I got me a new sled/little project, He had the head off as i stated, when he pulled it over is when the o-rings stretched out im assuming..

Needs a few small things maybe, track is decent, seat is decent couple rips, hood is pretty bad but it works just dont look great..

Clyinders, They have some lines but it feels very smooth, I am assuming a little marking up and down is normal or atleast ok? I felt it and its real smooth so it should be good i am hoping. When i first tried pulling it over it was stuck, but not bad and after that it spins over fine, anything i should look over or anything?

If i can come up with another 300 i am going back to pick up that 99 mxzx, that sled looks nice, Its the race sled i think, low miles, etc. It looks pretty nice. I really want to get that, just for something to mess around with or possibly rebuilt it, I could start learning to rebuild engines and shit on that thing..

Anyways, Ill try and get pics of it tomorrow.. After you see it ill post what i paid for it and i hope i got an ok deal on it...

If the lines can not catch your fingernail, they're OK to run. A light honing won't hurt anyway.

You can get the O-ring from any dealer or online catalog.

There are 4 o-rings that i need, i looked on denniskirk and those places, i didnt see any just the o-rings, i only see complete gasket sets which i dont really want to get at this time, unless im going to be tearing the whole motor down which i dont see the point in doing, it doesnt have a ton of miles on it either, unless there was any problems with the 98 libery 700 why i should tear it all down, Well actually if i take it down i would only take the cylinders off and thats about as far as i would go for now i think.

Ah check this shit out, its for jet skis, but they are the same part number, what you think about that? The one i found on ebay said pwc and snowmobile so i assume they are the exact same thing, they are cheap at this place right here. Part numbers 5410932, and 5410931
