engagement should be closer to 6 grand. either its bogging because its fat or lean on the pilot. chances are if you dropped the mains a lot and did nothing with the needles you might need to raise them a notch or two?
for 500'grass drags with new plugs on pump gas you should not see color until after several runs. if you can find some 95 octane vp gas you could drop several more sizes real easy. i ran 320's in the 800 down to 0 degrees out for 1000' ice runs, for 500' on grass in 50 degree temps using vp fuel you might be able to work your way down. stay safe though, better to loose a race over a 10 dollar trophy than eat a motor.
are you stock or piped?
i would try changing the gearing to a 66 pitch chain with a 40 tooth on the bottom,
if stock i would drop the primary wieghts to 52 grams, find a primary spring close to a 170-300, then run a 52-36 helix or very close to it with a polaris silver blue or a little stiffer spring.dial in your rpms using the wieghts and secondary spring.
if you are using pump gas, then you for sure want your engagement over 5000 rpm for sure, what you do is take the sled up to the line with cool water, run it on the warm up stand hard. get it to clean out the engine. then set it on the starting line and hold the rpms a couple hundred under engagment until the light turns green. it will keep the engine clean of fuel and the pipes trying to build heat.
