Well i got some of that tree cut up today. Not a ton but a good part of it.. It really sucks cutting all those small branches up tho. The chain i put on it was dull as fuck, it wouldnt cut anything at all. I put another on one and it worked pretty good. Not sure if it was the best but it worked very well for me.

What do i mix the gas at for this thing? I just used the stuff that my dad had already mixed up, but its out now so i gotta mix some up.. Is it 32:1 ?

O ya, i found the chain tensioner when i swapped chains again, Its on the engine side of the chain. Its a flat head screw driver. Remember i mentioned having to move this little slot for the bar to fit on all the way, that was actually the tensioner which i didnt know at the time.

And it has a gear on the nose of the bar.. So its a roller nose bar i guess..

most are David, you can go to your local hardware store and pick up a file for sharpening the teeth on the chain, I pay .75 for a 5/32, and it keeps the chain nice and sharp

40:1 is what most are using now, same as weedeaters and sleds.

Thanks guys..

We got this old homelite xl-12 chainsaw.. Well actually part of it. Ive tried getting the thing to run before.. But could never got it to go.. Its only half there, like the engine, gas tank etc. No bar, fuck the handle is even broken off. This thing has been sitting around for a long ass time.

So today i tear the thing down to the piston and crank. I took the cylinder and everything else off. The piston and cylinder really didnt look bad at all. A bit of build up on top of the piston which i cleaned off. I put some 2 stroke oil on the crank, on the piston before putting it back together too. Also a put some threebond on the cylinder base gasket, one side only. Got it all back together.. After a bunch of pulls trying to get it going.. It starts firing and i get it running. It runs like shit tho..

So long story short, you guys got any info on trying to tune the carb on that thing? There is "hi" and "lo" screw setting on the side. Been messing with that but havent got it in the right place yet.. Can sometimes get it to rev up but most of the time not..

I dono what im going to do with it, we prolly have more parts for it where i could change the casing where the handle isnt broken off, and could build a saw prolly.. My dad would love that. I dono why but he thinks those xl-12 model saws are the shit haha.. If i can find some parts for it ill try to build it. If not, got any ideas what i could use it for? Little motor scooter? My little brother has always wanted a chainsaw engine on a scooter haha.. I dono how i would make a clutch work on that tho.. Any ideas?

Check the muffler, if there was buildup on the piston, the screen in the muffler might be clogged too.
Check here for go-cart clutches;
