nah, something like 18-20 hours, i will ask him tonight about some specifics.

I know that when they went to the variable speed vacume pump that was a nice upgrade, got rid of a lot of noise, cut down on vacume pump maintanence and cost and less electric bill.
the nieghbor that put up the poormans parlor, he did a double 6 harren bone, his big labor savings were in all the chores not in the milking, when i worked for him in the past it took a couple hours to milk the 70 cows in stations, but then you had to fire up a couple old wore out conveyors and then the mixer, put the mixer on very slow discharge speed, then with two wheel barrows do the run and dump to get back before the other one is full. with any luck nothing breaks down. then run the barn cleaner and bed by hand, now its chase the cows up and milk them, go get the mixer and run it out into bunk wagons, grab the big bale chopper and bed, lot faster and easier on the body.

the uncle has small ponds at the end of the freestalls, all the poop gets pushed into the little loading pit, when the little pit is full a skid steer scoops it into the spreader.

if it were me, knowing what man hours and machine hours cost, instead of that little ramp for manure storage and using a skid steer, i would use the same square foot area, just make it a little deeper and use an electric pump/agitator to fill the spreader. twice as fast as a skid steer with less mess and long term cost.

I have 2 days worth of storage in the barn with an auger, would rather not haul manure at all in the winter.

Break downs kill a person. I am cheap and don't by new ever, usually.

hydraulic push verticle beater spreader. we use for everything from dairy solids to chicken litter to sludge lime. the spreader is built extremely well but anything can be broken. used to have a knight pro-twin sideslinger. hated that spreader.

I see Caroline equipment sells Hagedorn spreaders, which is near me. I am tempted to go check one out. Bulldog, have you used it in the winter? The manure I spread is 90% soup, in the spring I have loose housing that I clean along with some lots that are long rye straw full of crap.

the normal hydra push i used, full of soup, it barely dripped period, very water tight. the nice thing is that when it starts to get leaky, some simple rubber can be replaced to fix the leaks.

Thanks guys fgr the info, learned a few things.

Our union put welding classes on last winter, bad thing some where on Saturdays that I had plans for. Whished now I would have taken them. They probably have them next winter.

I just bought a little Lincoln mig gas welder. a 135. ( $399) Yeah I know its small, but couldnt afford $2000 for a 225amp. especially if I dont use it much. (thats what friends are for.LOL) But should be good for those little jobs on the vintage sleds, or I can get my dads stick welder and lay some chicken shit welds down LOL

what union are you in?
i am in the laborers, we have a welding class offered. 6 weeks course, when you are done you are certified for pipe line and other stuff. but thats in stick welding, if you pass your tests before the 6 weeks are up you can learn tig welding.

sparkys, damn sparkys, in building and trades jobs you guys are messy, clippings all over the place, then some laborer has to come around and pick up after you.

on the highway heavy i got to work with sparkys putting in light pole bases and running conduit down the ditchs. not bad work.

In the old days we carried 4" rigid pipe around. 110# a stick.(back then I wieghed about 155 # ) then lay on your stomack and reach in a ditch and thread the crap.

Didnt have all that fancy equipemnt either. A lot of pick and shovels.

I still wish I would have went and learned to be an Electrician.....sure gotta beat working in a prison. Pay may be similar but I would at least have a trade I could use on the side and with my own stuff.

Not much for side jobs for being a prison captain. I could always charge people and tazer their teenagers

My job for the last year has been putting in the elet. for a prison . controlling alll the doors, power, cams, lights.

If I had to do it over again, I would be a Plumber.

Make more, dont have to worry about all the new codes, that change every 3 years.
to many people in our trade.
a few years younger, I would do it

49ers aint bad either, Goverment plans on building a lot of new hwy.

I wouldnt mind being an operator, but i get to do it often enough to remind me that its fun on your own but i couldnt do it full time. I had to sit in a pay loader for the most of some days and it sucked, you dont work but yet you are hurting from the banging around,

plus if you are running a hoe for highway heavy, like laying pipe, you always have people around you up top plus you are digging around people and other services all the time.

I like being a labor, i can labor for sparkys, carpenters or any other person, I can jump in a piece of equipment if i have to, I have my plumbing code card so i can lay pipe and do service hook ups without needing a plumber to check us off.

I hope they build lots of roads and bridges in the coming years!! ever since the 35 bridge collapse i look at bridges now when i drive under them. you can see lots of concrete chunks missing.

I wish they would finish "Death Hwy" ( hwy 14 Kato to Roch) its only been 45 years and still only half wase. They do about 2-5 miles and let it sit for 5 years, then do another couple of miles and sit. dumbasses

All the money stays in the TC

Sounds like you have your fingers into a little bit of everything, which is really good, especially nowdays. The more you know the better off you are.

yeah I have run backhoes minnie exc. boom trucks. not really smooth, but can get it done, dont like all the people being around the equipment, wont look good on record, smacking someone with a bucket. LOL
