Have you all read all of that thread. Lucky - yes. But he rode that out like he did it everyday. Throttle control was great.

It did not look like it phased him at all. Hope others do not think it ends that way all the time. He kept his cool which helped but also luck was on his side.

If you read the full thread over on SW, he's been riding, guiding, etc for a number of years. He kept his cool, worked his way down and out the side, then got in the throttle. Not sure in that situation I could stay that cool and not just pin it to get clear.

throttle control, when i got to the base of the mountain you would have had to grind the throttle lever out of my handle bars. i would have punched a hole in the dash and grabed the throttle by hand for more rpms!!

In theory it seems a good idea to grab all you can and get off the slide. In reality, you hit that front wall too fast and risk losing control coming off. Human nature would say hammer it, he had presence of mind to ride it calmly and get out. If you listen close, you'll hear him get into throttle as he's clearing the side of slide.

This slide happened not far from where we ride from home, northern end of range. Avalanche bulletin actually used this in their daily advisories.

As dangerous as it was, it was cool to watch it from the riders perspective and not from down below.

I didn't read the replies before I watched it... had no idea the ground was going to open up like that. Like Andy said, very interesting to see it while riding.

I'd have shat myself personally.

Seeing it from the riders perspective gives a whole new look to it. The way the front wall swells in front of and beneath him is pretty impressive. You don't get that view from the runout area or the air where most are filmed from .

Someone would have to pry the bars out of my hands and pull the seat out of my ass afterwards... pucker factor was really high!

Nasty stuff.
There's something we just never want to see our selves,
but in being a mountain rider, it's something that we just have be aware of and learn to deal with.

He's definately a lucky one.
Did he buy a lottery ticket on the way home?
