Any year ultra 680 or XCR 800 from Polaris. I would also rank the Yamaha SRX 700 or Viper up there.

I hear the Storm's are very reliable too, but I havent seen alot of proof. Mine only has 1200 miles. The Storm has poo's strongest bottom end.

The Fuji 500 from the Centurion 78-82.

The 93-94 580 from Poo.

The XCR 800's are damn good.

94-96? ZRT from cat from what I hear as well.

The MachZ triple was good too, not sure on the years.

What are you trying to accomplish?

I would beg to differ on no good tripples. I have 7800 plus miles on my 93 580XLT and over 6000 miles on my 97 XLT touring.

no you dont, xlt's are known for bad cranks and stuff, just as all the new sled riders, twins rule and triples drool.

Actually 93 580 are known to be robust tripples and after 96 Polaris added the 4th oil line to protect the PTO bearings. Run your sled on the fat side and give up a little power, but gain the reliability of a sherman tank. Tripples are just more expensive to fix if they fail. That is the reason for the bad name. Well, if I don't then someone stole them both when I went to work today.

just having fun with you. there are more xlt's that made it to 8 k miles or more with no problems than the polaris line up since 06 all sleds together probably?!

i chose to go with another 800 triple vs new sled, better mpg than a new sled, better sound, more hp and better speed ability.

I love the MPG on my tripples... Outlast all my Twin friends. Saw that on the other thread looks like a nice ride. Hope you enjoy it.

The old 650 Indy's rocked...
My 680 bored to 800 rocked also ... 8000 miles and the only failer was the stupid plastic water pump gear.

Time will tell on my XCR800 motor... so far it seems good , a little finicky though.

if its finicky you either have bad motor work or bad pipes. I had 7 miles on in the summer i bought my first one, stock jetting and it still ran good and crisp, never fouled a plug, would go for rides and grass drags at buddys houses all summer, broke her in right!!

the radar runs were pretty good, first time i went to one and didnt really watch much of the races, i could stand there all day and watch them run but we were playing with the trail sleds out on the lake to much.

got about 50 miles in today, trails need a good 4-6 inch snow fall to rebuild them. sled ran great, just need to do some lil adjustments, still need to dial in the rear skid for my wieght, and get the handle bars of my knees.

Well I wouldn't blame it on the motor work or the pipes... most likely the tuner. Flannery kind of know his shit with Polaris motors , and HTG isn't so shabby either.
I'm just kind of being a little on the conservative on the jetting.. creeping up (well actually down) on it slowly.

the htg pipes really didnt do much over stock pipes. at the speed runs when my engine was show room stock i beat a lot of htg "180" kit sleds. when i did my own porting i was turning the same clutching as the htg pipes with porting, only i was spinning 8200 vs 8500.

jetting has been weird on these sleds, I run 420's on the trail stock everything, I have some sleds i built with htg pipes and some of the guys are at 460's and some are at 410's,
same with the stock sleds, some guys are only a couple hours from me, but he has to run 500 mains on days where i am running 420's.
when i did speed runs i would run 320 mains but run a 98 octane vp fuel.

done right these 800's have a wiiiidde power band, on the speed track i could run it at 7900 rpm to 8700 rpm and everything in between, the speeds for the most part would be dang close.

I do see a wide variety of power and setups in these motors. And from what I saw on the dyno with my set of pipes on a stock motor , yeah they don't really make much over the stocker's. Since HTG is nice enough to make a set for the Edge/triple conversion it just makes it easy.

Now a friend of mine had a '99 XCR8 with the Flannery trail port , HTG pipes , stock airbox and If memory serves me.. I think it was jetted down to 410's and was good to below zero.

I'm trying to get mine to run 8400-8500 then climb to 8700 but at the moment I'm only getting 8200-8300 then climbs to 8500. At first my sled was totally in consistant , I started with 450/460/450 and it wouldn't pull the RPM's all the time. I started taking some jet out , and it got better. Now I'm down to 430/440/430 and am thinking of dropping one more size. With the current set up on a 1000-1100 ft pull , In single digit temps I'm only slightly starting to show some color on the plugs.
I rode Friday and it started out in the single digits and by late afternoon it was 30ish , at the end of the day I'd hammer it , it would go to 8200 then drop down to 7800... It's got to be the jetting.

ves clean? if one of them is starting to get sticky they will take away top rpm real fast. the sled will launch like normal but the rpms will stall around the 8000 rpm area.

also check the water temp sendor, they have been known to go bad and will kill performance when acting up.

could be the wieghts or helix as well? to much tip weight, to much finish angle?

Good suggestion on the VES and temps sensors. Since this motor is in an Edge chassis the XCR temp sensor doenst work with the Edge wiring. I'll have to make sure that it is disablled somehow.

The motor should be able to pull the 64's and the 46/36 helix. I've talked to plenty of others that have the same motor and we are all very close in setups. Just the jetting seems to be widely different between airboxes, chassis and pipes.

at 900 feet elevation my engine work and htg pipes, stock primary spring, 10-64 weights, 52-36 helix, and polaris silver blue secondary spring seemed to work good,
