Default Hey Madcow...

I ran my ultra on Sat night hard and got 6 mpg. On Sunday I ran it easier and I got 7 mpg. Is this what I'm going to be at for mpg? How much does the high idle affect mpg?

idle wont affect it much, we can try a different primary spring to get engagement down so the machine is moving at an earlier throttle position and see if that works.

If you're looking for high MPG, you won't have any fun! jm2c. On a full tank I'm getting about 50 - 60 miles to a tank when playing fairly hard. After I figured that out I just quit looking at the odometer.

I think we just need to get that engagement down, right now just to get the sled rolling he is at 1/4 throttle, by the time he has any speed he is at 1/2 throttle or more. if we get the engagement down that way by 1/4 throttle he is moving and at 1/2 throttle he can cruise along.

Hey you fucktard. I'm not complaining about the power nor the mpg going down. I knew they would. I just saw other posts about ultra triple triples getting 10 mpg.

I figured they were idiots but I thought I could get around 8 mpg. The same as Madcow's XCR 800 (which had more HP).

Maybe my ultra is simply the cats ass: a gas guzzling, arm dismembering, fire breathing ditch rocket. Or, maybe Madcow is that much of an evil genius.

I just didn't know if there was a tuning issue to resolve (what if I fucked up the carbs when I fixed the Tempa-Flow) or I need buy a bigger gas tank.

Madcow, just to be absolutely clear: I am indebted to you for helping me with my sled. You gave me exactly what I wanted. I just want to make sure that I'm not loosing mpg needlessly.

take it easy on ace, he is just joking around.

its a catch 22, if we lower the engagement to help get some mpg the only trade off is that you might not have the instant take off that you have now. when we get good snow again we can play more, or next fall, whatever works.

I know on one setup with the xcr and some crap slp pipes that it only got about 5 mpg leaned way down, and didnt pull any more mph over stock on the trail.

my other xcr always got about 12 mpg by the way. but you have to remember that on that sled at 60 mph on the hard pack trail the throttle position is still at 1/4 throttle.
