Default Help identifying black Primary Spring.

So I bought my 98 XCR700 with a clutch kit in it. The guy couldn't remember who makes it. Now I'm trying to get my engagement down from 5k to make it not such a "trencher".

I have 10-54 weights and an all black spring in there. The spring is exactly 4 inches long. Can't be a stock Polaris spring becuase referring to Power's chart the all-black Primary springs are 2.9 and 4.25 inches. OK, so not them.

EPI has an all-black spring, but no length given so I'm assuming that's what this is. Any other guesses?

Anyone have any input on a spring to get my engagement down to 3500 or so? Maybe a Blue/Gold or a Dk. Blue?

Well, the thing is that this is all-black. No stripe or anything so I only have 3 choices, the 3 I mentioned. Unless someone knows of something I don't?

More than likely it's a Titanium spring from Team Industries!(bottom link)

Do you have a brand name for the helix? That may help to solve who the kit is made by and ultimately tell you what the primary spring is!
Just a thought!

I bet its an EPI spring, I got one to try out in my sled this year and if I remember correctly it was probably around 4" free length

They sure did!!!
The only problem that I see is that the regular Team "Black" spring is a low engagement 100-275Ftlbs but there Titanium springs are all black with higher engagement values.
How clean are your clutches and when was the last time you've taken them apart? Is it possible that the high trench digging engagement could be from worn out clutch?

No, I have the clutch apart right now. Everything's clean and looks good.

10-54's and a black spring for 5K engagement.

It runs like a raped ape right now...it's fine for here. I need to change my engagement for the UP down to 3500 or so, otherwise this thing is too much to handle.

that thing must launch like a mofo! those are the stock weights that came in my ultra. i run a blue/white primary spring and it in gauges at about what you are looking for. i have an old spring you can have if you want to try it. but shipping might stop us!

Oh, I forgot to mention. Yes it launches like a raped ape, lol. So I should be looking for a blue with a white stripe primary. Gotcha.

^^ haha to both! but i will always be above you...... just so you know i just started to get into clutching, it's all just what i have read so far and not anything that i have tried as of yet. i had a clutch kit put in when i got my sled and the weights went to 56 grams a blue/white primary spring with a 48/36 helix and i can't for the life of me remember the spring color.. i think it was a blue orange!
