can anyone tell me if its poss to install a 440 ves case inducted engine into a 97 xlt chassis (evolved)and still be able to close the hood? You guessed it, xlt crank problems!

mostly concerned with the xlt sitting so low in the chassis and the 440 being case inducted the carbs are pointing at the tunnel. I guess i'm wondering if polaris ever put a case inducted twin in the evolved chassis then i could just use that motor mount to get the right angle/fit etc.

They did not. There is a good chance it will fit, but i cannot say for sure. I mounted a 98 xc 700 motor set up into my 99 mxzx 440 race chassis and it barely fit, the plugs were actually sticking through the breathing holes on the hood haha.. There is a good chance it will fit, but do you arleady have the motor? If so just get that xlt motor out of there and start mocking it up, just set it in there and see how it looks and all that good stuff.

I just set er in on the xlt motor mounts and hood just clears ,carbs clear, clutch alig, but the libertys coolant outlet is low and hits the steering shaft under the motor and from what i can see motor has to go up 1/2'' . But i'm starting to get feed back that not to waste this good of a motor on that chassis.I'm told It's an 03' left over out of the polaris race program, with only bench time. still looking for oppinions, got some time still no snow yet!

If you plan on using that 440 as a trail motor you better read through this thread

You will need the CRC steering set up,steering shaft and post from a 98xcr440 to do it. It was made to steer around the water pump housing. I have the set up off the sled in my avatar if you want measurements or to talk about purchasing. We would have to measure to see if it would even fit in an evolved chassis. I'm not schooled on the 03 440 but I am running a 2000xcsp 440 valve motor that is now in a 2003 pro-x chassis....I had to do many changes to make it trailable...but it was worth it....A properly set up valve 440 will give and non piped 600 xlt a run for its money until 70mph any day...

What worries me is you said race motor......That normally means high octane head, unless its been changed. Also the TMX mikunis that are prolly on that motor are pieces of shit

Its evident I am not smart enough to tune the TMXs. These motors in race form were built to run at WOT. I dicked with the TMXs until I just gave up and put on 34mm VM round slides off a 98 XCR440 and the machine became very trail friendly. I am having the big block bug now, so I am collecting parts to BB the pro-x...

both the EV 440 and the 597 xlt motor are right around 100 hp...
