What are the trails like anybody have fresh snow, has it been as warm as lower Mich? I need to travel all our snow is gone and the ice is too dangerous because of this thaw we've had for the past 10 days....its brutal.

Snow sucks right now, it all melted and froze with the warm weather. After another good system or two it should be better.

We were riding up by Gaylord & Wolverine yesterday & there were some dry spots but there was snow on the trails. Best spots were in the woods because of the shade but still the snow was soft & close to being slushy in some areas. I overheated from the high temps & my helmet was full of sweat. Nobody was on the trails so it was a good day for my friend to bring his son to ride the trails for the first time. Snow should be on the way by this weekend though.

Goin up tomorrow, gonna check out the trails around Cadillac, I hear its good riding there. If no good, hittin the Gaylord, Frederic, Grayling area cuz they definitely got hit with a bunch of LES. A friend of mine lives in Traverse City & was headed south today. He said from there to just before Cadillac it was a white out with very limited visibility. Anywhere north of Grayling should have good snow on the trails from the info I gathered.

We just got back from our weekend of sledding last night. Overall not a bad trip, put about 200 miles on our sleds riding all day saturday & 3 hrs on sunday. On saturday we started at exit 251 just south of Grayling, hit trail 679 & rode north to Frederic. We ate at the Swamp Bar & ordered some lunch, they were very busy & it took us a while to get our food. Their burgers are excellent. Then back down trail 7 to 47 towards Lovells & Lewiston. From there went north to Gaylord, then headed back down 7 to Grayling. There was decent snow but the corners were icy, especially trail 47, it was the worst one. Gaylord had plenty of snow though, & good riding headed back to the trailer on saturday. There was quite a few sleds out on saturday. Sunday we hit the M-72 Grayling trailhead, we heard from some other riders it was good in that direction. It was snowing pretty good already that morning & while riding. Took trail 79 north & up toward Mancelona & turned around at Blue Bear Trail. There was a lot more snow on our sunday ride & it was bumpy from all the weekend riders but the corners werent bad like our saturday ride. Anything north & west of M-72 near Grayling should be excellent riding if you plan on heading up, I would still be careful in the corners because theyre very icy. Heres a few pics I took.

Trail 79 on sunday, snowing hard

My sled got melted by the can I installed. It popped out of the exhaust exit on saturday. Not sure what kind it was but it didnt want to fit right.
Luckily I found someone to fix it on sunday, I called Sledheads in Frederic & he hooked me up with a guy that fixes sleds(real cheap too) just a few miles off M-72 not far from the Days Inn we were stayin at. He fabbed up a nice aluminum plate for it & riveted it in. Reinstalled the stock can & rode for a few hours.

We were near Mass City this weekend and the trails were good in the morning after grooming, but by night they were, without fail, moguled out and brutal. Gotta expect wear from traffic, but there were man eaters bottoming nearly everyones suspension out at relatively slow speeds. If you get home before 4:00, you'll be fine.
