Default 97 700 and 96 XLT not running well

This Chirstmas break we took the sleds up to our cabin for some fun and started having some issues.

The first being my dad's 97 RMK 700. It's been backfiring as of late, and along with that the throttle response isn't near as crisp as it was in rides past. My dad is thinking it could be a CDI thing, or possibly the stator that Poo had troubles with for 97. What do you think?

And then there's my moms 96 XLT. We were out riding in the powder and the sled just started to bog down heavy. you could barely push through the powder and we had to limp back to the cabin with it. We got home with it, checked the plugs and compression and they were all fine. I've read that alot of the time the carbs can get gummed up and rob power, so we're going to hopefully pull it off this weekend and see how things are. I also thought of checkin fuel lines and seeing if there was any crap in the tank causing trouble. Any ideas?

for the popping make sure the pilot jets are clean.

for the bogging in deep snow get a snow deflector. chances are the exhaust is plugging with snow.

Well the stator was bad on the 700, good thing we had a spare. It's all good now.

Now the real fun begins with the XLT. Appearently it's squeaks at idle. So we think it could be something bigger than just a carb. We'll tear the head off tonight and see what we can see.
