Default not the best christmas

well this was the first Christmas i have ever missed. the frustrating part about it was work new we were down before i came back out here, so then we sit here for a week doing busy work. they told us we could go home, but we couldnt leave till friday and had to come back on mon. i asked if i could take an extra week off and they said no. then they took away our guaranteed hours, as well as telling us if we are staying we cant simply log hours, if we dont work we dont get hours. so i said we are F'd either way,
well needless to say since the supervisor is gone we logged some good hours, gave us a good christmas bonus on sunday even!!

the good part about it is that there are a couple of us who have bonded real well, so its like your distant family.

its frustrating working when we are so close to being able to stay home, going to try to start building another shop for the business. a small expansion to the farm and a couple more years of reducing our personal debt and we are good to walk away from working for other people. I am also going to look at a truck to use as a business in the oil field next winter.

its great in the oil field. they step over hundred dollar bills to pick up penny's, you have managers that are in there 20's that only got the job because they outlasted other people on the crew. they have no idea how to deal with labor , if you try to make sense out of how things are being ran it will drive you nuts. i saw some issues and when i told them to a manager they poo poo it or tell you that your wrong, only a couple days later to wonder why you didnt bring it to there attention when its a major issue. they lie about everything so bad that back to back two different managers will tell you 2 different storys.
they usually dont have permits for the overweight trucks, one tells you there legal on the back roads, the other tells you there legal on the highway. but the signs on the roads tell us there illegal everywhere.

right now they can get away with treating you how they want because there are no jobs in the rest of the country. but in a couple years when the economy pics back up they are going to be hurting out here.
right now they are running about a 65% labor turn over rate, no other industry could a manager keep his job.

on the good side, no other job would allow you to be this lazy and still have a job.

if you need money to get you through the winter the oil field is the place, if you can let stuff go real easy and are a good learner there is a great opportunity for you to make huge money in the long run.
if you are set in your ways, watch every penny, cant stand lazy people, dont like being away from home, then this place will drive you nuts.
i refuse to drive if they dont have permits, they try to make you feel guilty and what not, i pray for the day they fire me for that, oh what a nice lawsuit that would be!! my license is my life, why ruin it for them.

in the oil field you can log so many hours but none are ever driving.

for only a 1000$/wk they better provide food and housing.

Good hell, I'm only raking in 1200 a *month*. But...I get off any day I want/need so long as it's not a critical time during the work period.

wolfie if you had a class A with tanker and hazmat, get on a fracing crew and in 5-8 years you would be making 1400$/ day. with a starting pay of about 80+ a year.

I am not very good at driving truck

We've been trying to brainstorm a little bit at the shop just trying to figure out something we could build and lease to the oil field guys without getting sucked in too deeply, with a shitload of overhead.

Good times.

if you could build a big fancy truck stop you would have a gold mine,
if you could build a truck repair shop you have a gold mine,
if you had a truck out here you would have a gold mine.

see the pattern, everything out here revolves around trucking and people, if you can make a business that supports trucking or people you have a good opportunity.

We're talking a 3.5 person welding shop. While we do truck repair on the side and custom trailer work, we don't have the resources to go into truck repair full time.

It would have to be something a lot simpler than building a truck stop. My boss was saying that he didn't want any of us stuck in the same situation that you are in. It's not worth the money.

LOL Have you ever seen a good truck driver? There always on the way. Damn moving road blocks. Hell most of them think they have a parade license.
Just get one with an automatic and you can sound like a pro! It will even downshift with out missing a gear. LOL Make me sound good pulling away from the stop sign!

I know a couple good truck drivers. One is lighter than me and can still shove the clutch where it needs to go. One is way the fuck huger than me and can shove the clutch where it needs to go.
