not the best christmas
well this was the first Christmas i have ever missed. the frustrating part about it was work new we were down before i came back out here, so then we sit here for a week doing busy work. they told us we could go home, but we couldnt leave till friday and had to come back on mon. i asked if i could take an extra week off and they said no. then they took away our guaranteed hours, as well as telling us if we are staying we cant simply log hours, if we dont work we dont get hours. so i said we are F'd either way,
well needless to say since the supervisor is gone we logged some good hours, gave us a good christmas bonus on sunday even!!
the good part about it is that there are a couple of us who have bonded real well, so its like your distant family.
its frustrating working when we are so close to being able to stay home, going to try to start building another shop for the business. a small expansion to the farm and a couple more years of reducing our personal debt and we are good to walk away from working for other people. I am also going to look at a truck to use as a business in the oil field next winter.
its great in the oil field. they step over hundred dollar bills to pick up penny's, you have managers that are in there 20's that only got the job because they outlasted other people on the crew. they have no idea how to deal with labor , if you try to make sense out of how things are being ran it will drive you nuts. i saw some issues and when i told them to a manager they poo poo it or tell you that your wrong, only a couple days later to wonder why you didnt bring it to there attention when its a major issue. they lie about everything so bad that back to back two different managers will tell you 2 different storys.
they usually dont have permits for the overweight trucks, one tells you there legal on the back roads, the other tells you there legal on the highway. but the signs on the roads tell us there illegal everywhere.
right now they can get away with treating you how they want because there are no jobs in the rest of the country. but in a couple years when the economy pics back up they are going to be hurting out here.
right now they are running about a 65% labor turn over rate, no other industry could a manager keep his job.
on the good side, no other job would allow you to be this lazy and still have a job.
if you need money to get you through the winter the oil field is the place, if you can let stuff go real easy and are a good learner there is a great opportunity for you to make huge money in the long run.
if you are set in your ways, watch every penny, cant stand lazy people, dont like being away from home, then this place will drive you nuts.
i refuse to drive if they dont have permits, they try to make you feel guilty and what not, i pray for the day they fire me for that, oh what a nice lawsuit that would be!! my license is my life, why ruin it for them.
If the boner police are here I need a lawyer.
