Default Xtra 10 Issues

Hmmm, well I took the rear suspension out of the chassis last night and noticed the notorious cracks on the front arm. This is the third arm I've seen with the exact same cracks. I'm trying to find either an aftermarket solution or beef this arm up so this won't happen again... Or do I have bigger fish I need to fry. Any suggestions are welcome, except for ride yamaha, ski-doo or arctic crap.

LOL, I've got those cracks on the '99 XC7 too.

I just ride it, what's the worst case scenario? I mean, it's not like losing an A-arm at 85mph right?

Am I naive?

Anyway, we tried to weld it, but the crack just creeps up ahead of the bead, it's no use.

as far as bigger fish? any fish you find is gonna have a notorious or not chink in it's armor.

It's all relative.

wat the fuck, am I the Dali Lama today or?

Add some bracing around the crack and you should be able to fix it

Well it's tough to add bracing because this is down where the shaft passes through and connects up to the rails. It really bugs me knowing that I have seen three arms with the same cracks though.

One my XLT is was the rear arm that cracked. Right at the 90deg joint where the arm connects to the cross shaft connecting the rails. Drilled a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it from expanding, welded it up and then welded in a triangular brace

mine has been cracked for 5 years now, dont care either. nothing is going to go anywhere? so i said piss on it. I use to get a lot of labor taking them out and welding them. but then in a couple years half of them are cracked again.

I found out if you dump the Aluminum rod on the inside, and go with a steel rod from an XLT, you might find luck there. I had the same issues, replaced it once ($125), then went with the steel, and been ok ever since

Wouldn't work unless I cut the pipe into about 4 pieces of about an inch or longer.

I have had that problem with every Xtra-10 suspension I ever had. When I bought my '98 XC7 new, the front arm cracked and ended up placing a new one. When I bought the used '98 XC7 220 version, I knew there would be a crack, and bought a new one at a dealer's cost. My old '99 XCR8 had a crack when I bought that sled as well. The only thing I havent seen a crack is on my now, current '00 XCR8. Not sure why some many of the Xtra-10 had alot of front arm issues. WL

its either from the welding process or the jig setup from the factory. I have seen some with very low miles cracked. the only bad thing is that the crack lets grease out instead of pushing it to the other side.
