Default 71 Panther

Here's what I have been working on when I have time.

71 axile flow Panther 399, or maybe a 72

You should have seen all the oil, leaves inside. actually I think all that oil helped preserve the fininsh. LOL
Should have taken thes pics when the skis where still Yellow.
The skid has hardly any slides left, and the one rear idle wheel is missing the rubber, lots of broken cleats. carb is soaking, should be fun putting it back together, first try at a Tilly carb...

but oh well, it was a $100, just gonna be a trail rider.

How's the plating of the cyls. Thise years had a bad habit of the chrome flaking off.
I had one and could not find 399 cyls to replace them with, so I changed it to a 440.
Just needed pistons and jugs to do the job.

Nice job for $100! That doesn't look like a Suzuki engine in it, did they use someone else that early? Looks like a JLO/Rockwell in fact.

^^^Yep thats what it is a JLO/Rockwell
Most had the Kawi in them, then they started to switch to the Suzuki.

The seat is in Good shape also, the most $$$$ part of a sled.

Hopefully over Turkey day weekend will get some time on getting done.

Took the tank in to get cleaned, see how that turns out

Good, the JLO engines did not have the flaking problem that the Kawi engines did.

I knew the Kawi had a center seal problem, never heard of the flacking.

Took the tank in to get cleaned, turned out great, but should have asked how much first.LOL

Think its a 74

There you go, you wanted a vintage sled, offer him $50 -$75 since it dont run, needs work

I Put new slides on, idealer wheels, started taken off broken cleats, Damn, I dont have any cleats, gave away a spare track, Dumb.
All I have are about a dozen Ice cleats, and I dont want to use them. Should have bought a box of 50 Ice cleats when I had a chance years ago.

Well today I'm heading out to post the trails, which about 90% are across fields and ditches.

I cant afford it right now, i do want a vintage but was also wanting to get a polaris since i have a 440 fan motor that just needs a bearing and crank seals and it shouild be good to go. But i have alot of stuff i need to get taken care of so i can ride the other sleds this season first.

Did it snow there in kato today/last night?

Cant you just put a rubber track on it or do you not want to put one on?

I should had you stoped in Ornsby and pick up some cleats. Might end up driving down there so I can put it back together next weekend.

Tried many years ago putting a rubber track on a Panther, didnt work, to sharp of bends for the rubber.

Sat. spent from 10am to about 6:30pm putting up trail signs.
Maybe this weekend also?

No pay, beer and food.

We do all of Nicollet county. close to 200 miles. almost all of it has to be marked each fall, then taken out in the spring. We did about 35 miles, there should have been other groups out also. Plus all the fields have to be p;owed/dics, so there a little smoother, then they get rolled to flatten out the bumps, a lot of time, for a few guys

We did one section yesterday, might be doing a section from N kato to Nicollet this weekend.

You should join a club, they can use the help. Find people to ride with.
Everyone in our group where around 40? one guys son was there also.
They can use young guns, especially if they have ATV.

Nice dude, thanks for the link to the map. Do we usually have very ridable snow by winter or no? Maybe we can meet up for some riding when i get my christmas break off from school..

The only trail ive ever ridden was that little one over by odin, i rode it from close by odin to the highway and back, i rode my sled out to odin cuz we used to have a house there, i just randomly came across it so i followed it haha..

Do you got any idea as you like how many miles it is from st james to madelia by riding pure trails? I see there is trail from here to there but it goes the other way first and the towards madelia, so maybe it is on the side of the road, i have no idea.
