Now all you need is practice .........

I'm all for we all spend a few minutes before rides and do some test searches. Pretty easy to simulate a lost sledder with a beacon in a glove buried around a corner in a debris field or in torn up area . Just an idea. I've done it before , it's not as easy as it may sound to locate it on foot.

Just put the scent of young man's cologne on it and olaf won't need a beacon...

In all seriousness, I won't ride in the big hills unless everyone has beacons from now on. The sleds are too big and can too easily get into trouble that was only in dreams a few years ago. Additionally, it is useless to have a beacon unless you know how to use it.

And everyone in the group has one and knows how to use it.

Agreed. Everyone should be comfortable on how they operate and how to use them. A crisis situation is not the time to be learning. I intend on doing the unmanly thing and "read the directions" and then get familiar with it here at home. I want to do a dry run when we get out west or even up north if we ride there first. Vert, you had mentioned that you have an extra one. Would my brother be able to rent it from you or should I have him rent one from a dealer before meeting up with us? I found a ski shop in Dillon that is renting them. He just opened his own business and I do not think he is going to be in a position to buy one right now.

I won't rent it, but I'd probably be convinced to loan it to him.

Do you have a cute sister-in-law? Jking.

Actually she is very cute. Petite with a nice rack. Not sure my brother would be up for sharing though, lol. If you have an extra that would be great but I do not want to take advantage. I know you don't drink. How about dinner as a thank you?

No big deal, Andy. Glad to help. I'd rather loan it to him and know everyone is prepared than have him maybe forget to rent and ride anyway.

He might be the one to find me if the worst were to happen.

Thanks Tim. What days are you planning on coming down? Keith and I talked on the phone last night and he did not know for sure. Our plans are starting to come together. We have reservations in Kremmling but may ride Vail Pass the first day (Friday 1/2). Not sure if we are spending the night at my brothers in Parker on the first and then going to Vail in the morning or going straight to Kremmling on the 1st and then heading out from there in the morning. We will probably make plans around you. When do you plan on coming down?

Haven't made shit for reservations yet, need to get busy.

We won't be riding till Jan. 2nd after driving all day on the 1st. I booked an apartment and 2 extra rooms in Kremmling so we're good on the reservations. I was told I can cancel with 24 hours notice.

Yep, not riding until the 2nd. Cuzz, did you verify if we have reservations for the night of the 1st or are we checking in on the 2nd? Vert, I am not sure what your work schedule is but Thurday is a holiday which I assume you have off. Friday will be a blow off day, nothing is going to get done. Then you are into the weekend. based on Mapquest, it looks like you have a 5-6 hour drive. Why not drive in on Thursday like us then we ride Friday and Saturday, and you can head for home on Sunday. Or better yet, ride on Sunday and Monday with us also if you have the time. We are going to try and ride both Vail Pass and Rabbit Ears.

Andy and anyone else interested,

I know we spoke about never attending the Avy course. Well, good news! A guy I talk to from John Dee is mailing me the pamphlet he uses when giving the course. I'll try and scan it (if possible) and get it to you or just post it up.

Copied right from his email. "I have the pamphlet that was used during the Avy class if you want it. Even without the class, it has some good information in it. The instructor taught the class from this and we followed along."

That's awesome. Any knowledge that can be gained is a step in the right direction. Like I was telling you last night, I have been getting along using common sense and a little bit of luck but really want to better understand what to look for and be better prepared.

No sports car for me but it seems like you have to be over 50 to own one. My sports car is on the water, that way my family can enjoy my mid life crisis with me. It's kind of hard to pick up bow bunnys when they are with me though.

I hear that. I was hoping for a Girls Gone Wild session on my boat this summer.

I've got some info files on Avy's you might like

Beacon101_000.pdf

Probing101_000.pdf

There too big for here but grab them from my server if you want.
