Default Need advice on a new longtrack.

I've still got to sell a pickup before I'll get another sled, but after the Ultrastud deal went through, I'm halfway to getting a different longtrack. I've pretty much decided to get an Edge chassis RMK, but that's as far as I've gotten for decision making. A guy in New Ulm has a nice 05 144" that I might be able to get for under $3K. It's only a 600 though. How much less power will there be compared to my 121" with an 1.5" track? Will I really notice a big difference in power since I'm turning the bigger track? Unlike you guys that are obsessed with being faster and more powerful than everyone else, I'd be perfectly satisfied with a 600 at lower elevations. I'm just worried that at 9,000 feet the 600 is going to feel a little anemic. Is it economical to get a VES 600 close in power to my previous 800 NonVES? Now Gerbil found me a sweet Vertical Escape 700 on Craigslist. How is the 700 motor? Am I going to notice a big jump in performance over the 600? Did the 700's have crank problems? My other option is an 07 or 08 600 RMK. That would probably be a rental and it would cost between $4800 and $5200. I'd better have a constant raging boner for that IQ chassis to justify that kind of money. Would I? Please weigh in on these pressing issues in my life.

How sweet is that 700 V-E? The 700 motors were good as far as I know, don't believe they had the problems of the 800.

Only 1,800 miles. How much lighter was the Vertical Escape than the regular RMK's?

Depending on year, it'll be under 490 stock, lots of small areas to lose weight too.

The sled is 04 with reverse. Is there any chance of that being PERC? If it was mechanical reverse, I'd probably have to tear that off. I think mechanical reverse is junk.

the newer 700 is not much behind the old 800 for motor,
the 600 with a 144 would be a great machine I would think, i am thinking of a 151 for my 600 and heavy bones. I wont get to 100 mph but I might be able to get through the cat tails!!

I had a 600 Ski Doo Renegade that I stretched out to 144" x 2". I thought it had plenty of power, even out west. Took me everywere I wanted to go but then again I am not a big climber. My brother still has it. Horsepower has to be comparable to the Poo 600. I would be happy with a 600 again.

What was wrong with it? How many miles, and how many years old was it when you bought it? Where was the sled ridden?

2007 and bought in November of 2007 but out of warranty because it was used as a rental. 800 or so miles, it was MINT, and ridden at a resort that didn't make it. The sled was mint and gave me no reason to think it wouldn't be as good as new. WRONG. Nothing but problems so I traded it in on my new M8.

I think maybe your problems had more to do with the fact it was an Arctic Cat than its rental status.

I haven't had any problems with my new one except that steering rod. I have come to terms with the fact I am too hardcore for the sled.

Welcome to the club! Of course I have to really hold back on my "ultra-aggressive" riding style, otherwise none of my sleds would last either.

After riding the IQ chassis that's all I would suggest lol. I know it's alot of jingles and that's most peoples problem buying an IQ chassis. But the ride, power, warranty, and peace of mind all make it worth while.

You skipped the GenII, Edge, and Fusion chassis, so of course you would say the IQ is vastly superior. You came from a Wedge! Did you ever ride a well setup Edge? I'd have to come up with $2,200 to $2,500 to get into an IQ over an Edge. I also might have to get one with higher miles than the Edge. Are you still sure it would be worth it? My impression is that the IQ is vastly superior in bumpy trails, but the deeper and softer the snow is, the less you notice a difference in performance.

I guess if money wasnt a problem i would have an iq, but if i was looking at buying a used sled, I guess it would be ride an edge and wish for an iq or dont buy for a couple years and let the iq's get that much cheaper.

Escape already sold. Yesterday was the second day the ad was up, and the ad was gone this morning. Probably someone picked up the sled after work yesterday, so it was gone before I knew about it. I guess now I know that $3,200 for an Escape with 1,800 miles is a good deal in this market.

I have ridden the GenII and aggressive chassis, but not an edge. I've often wondered how the Edge rides, I'll have to trade off with IBS and see. The fusion is almost the same thing as an IQ.
