Default I'm just a mad scientist like the rest of you....

Here's the scoop, I dabble in drag racing ice/grass I am currently working on a 1974 Arctic cat El Tigre for open mod vintage ice racing, I am also planning the next project after that. The sled I have decided to use in any class they may let me is a 1976 Rupp Nitro 440 LC. Now off the bat and stock the Nitro has a disadvantage to other sleds of the era that are the same size, while it is powerful it is also heavy and detuned from the factory. With some sipmle clutching and tuning it is a very competitive stock sled. Now come on guys, who the hell wants stock? I sure don't! Here is a little back ground on the motor, it is a 440 LC reed valve with stock twin tuned pipes. stock they run around 8500 RPM, making about 70HP. From looking around and reading lots and lots of two stroke performance theory books and articles this motor has a lot of room for improvement! First and foremost I want to go through the entire motor and replace all the bearings and have the crank trued and indexed then welded in welded to keep it from spinning. Now that I have a soil base to work from the jugs must be ported intakes/transfers/exhaust, to get the most I can from them. The heads will have to be reshaped and shaved for more power, reeds replaced going to use some thing like 44mm TMX carbs have custom pipes made for it to get the most from the porting. Now here are the kickers! I want to eliminate the vacuum fuel pump and install a high flow electrical one, why so much extra fuel you ask? Gotta have more fuel when you want to run nitrous oxide! Yes you read right, I want a nitrous breathing vintage monster! I also want to remove the mechanical water pump and get an electrical one to save HP. Alright go ahead and tell me it will never work and that I am totally nutz!

Rupp on nitrous? I like the way you think. My nitrous Rupp would be a longtracked boondocker instead of a laydown dragsled though.

aaen makes vintage pipes, they can also make custom ones i think. sounds like you are having fun with your sleds!!

you dont need a big fuel pump for nitrous, your nitrous kit has its own fuel pump. when you hit the nitrous button it opens the nitrous solenoid, and at the same time kicks in a fuel pump and fuel solenoid.
