Default Inexpensive 136" PLUS Off-Trail/Mountain Sled

OK. So lets just say you had $2500 to play with for a sled and are buying soon. No more summer deals, no traveling halfway across the country, etc.

I always liked the Mountain Max's from Yamaha but dunno if I'll find a decent one. Lets just leave the Yamaha sleds out.

I don't want anything too old. Hmmmmm, lets say nothing older than a 2000.

I want the most capable and reliable sled so don't care which brand it is. I like the Arctic Cat EFI system so will say that is my preference. I was burned by a Ski-Doo but won't rule them out. I don't know enough about Polaris to really have an opinion. It seems I don't want a 2001 or older Pooplaris because it lacks VES and has an older chassis.

My biggest 'want' is reliable, followed by performance or capability, and then the rest. I know you guys are all Pooplaris groupies but I want some real world thought put into this.

Pm RMKer or Indygirl and see if they are still selling her old sled. It was a 136" rmk trail which is very reliable. Seems like it was a 97-99 though.

I would stick to Artic Cat with efi or Polaris with fuel injection, my next sled will be fuel injection and I have been eyeing a 2009 m7.......

My experience with the Liberty 600 motor has been nothing but positive. I think that it is dead reliable and makes good enough HP for my needs. In the Edge chassis, I don't think it can be beat for the price. A lot of people already have them extended, but they can be stretched to 136" with an 1.5" paddle for a pretty reasonable price.

I really can't help much, pricing out here is higher than back east, but $2500 seems a little light for getting a later model sled that's still got usable life in it.

Just my .02

Hey Cuzz. Buy that Ski Don't. Gerbil will buy it from you when he gets his tax return if you don't like it.

It's an earlier model, but I do have a Doo I'd make you a good deal on.

Oh wait, no travel. Kills that deal. Good luck getting a used sled delivered to you for 2.5k

IMO if that SD is an 800 (I didn't see what size it was in the ad?) I'd be cautious. Polaris may have a bearing problem while skidoo had a major ring problem.

Not trying to pry any top secret info out but it is hard to make an honest suggestion without all the details. Is your girlfriend going to ride it, boyfriend, slickwilly, 5 year old nephew? Are that mechanically inclined? Like Powersledder said the doo's had their issues, of course like any other sled, but some are harder fixes than others.
