Default Electrical Problem

Alright a few of you knew I was having a bit of a problem with electrical. Had no lights at all, dash or headlights. Handwarmers were hot as hell no matter what setting they were on.

Replaced regulator with the correct one by the book. Now still no type of lights, handwarmers work right, and tach now bottoms out above idle, back to 0. Any help would be appreciated.

Bad ground, feeding entire electrical system back through the handwarmers, which suck up all the juice 100% of the time.

Check the ground on the handwarmers, and any ring terminals you have throughout the chassis. Was I a person who told you to get a regulator? That diagnosis has bad ground written all over it.

Makes sense, which ground are you referring to, chassis or engine?

I'm pulling headlight, and tach, but not ready to do it yet. Need a replacement for tach and have to get the headlight delete kit to use it as air intake before I do all that. Really don't like running without tach right now.

I'll try to track down grounds. Engine is easy, I've seen it already. Finding the chassis ground may be a trick. Would grounding from engine ground back over to chassis do the trick?

Thanks for the help IBS.

There should be 1 or 2 grounds running from the instrument panel to the chassis, check where they terminate on the chassis or where they connect to the instrument panel, I bet a terminal broke off.

Do you have a 12 volt test light?

12 volt light and a Fluke multi-meter. I'll start checking at hood connectors. The guy that owned it before ran without hood most of the time. Likely a connector may just be bad.

I don't recall if they worked last year or not. I believe they did, but headlight was only high beam. (switch problem I been told)

Lots of juice runs through headlight switches, in both sleds and cars. Check there first.
No need for the Fluke, a test light will tell you all you need to know.
Worst case scenario, make a ground pigtail for testing and try re-grounding each thing and see if it works.

Hey since were on the electrical topic, maybe you guys can help me out on my sled too.. Its the 440 doo, all my lights and stuff work fine, but my handwarmers dont work for shit, i rolled the grip over and i felt the warmer but barely.. I put a car battery on it and it got warm. Why is my sled not heating it up but everything else is working fine? I tried another set of warmers, did the same thing so the warmers themselves sound to be good.

First, start a new thread in Ski Doo.

Then we'll help you out. Sorry, there are SOME rules here.

Good idea, I'll look at it 1st. I thought about the pigtail too, figured it might speed things up. I hate electrical shit .......

I'll try to take a look at it tomorrow evening, provided the weather doesn't go to shit. I know it's probably something really simple like a plug loose or some stupid shit like that.

Not anymore unless it's my own work. Now I just critique other welders work.

BTW, managed to look at it a little tonite before wind and snow brought it to halt. Why I have no idea, but now tach works again. All I did was check a few plugs/wires near hood hinges.

Take all the connectors apart and clean them with emery cloth, brushes, etc.
