Default Pipe woes

I think I figured out why my exhaust temp sensor has been going out. I took it for a ride with stock exhaust friday when I got it home from the dealer and everything was fine. Went to put Aaen pipe back on and noticed it's cracked. The support broke and the pipe was riding on a frame support and wore a hole. I welded it saturday and welded the hole and reinstalled the pipe for saturday nights ride. Popped the hood today before I took off to make sure no welds broke/cracked and it was broke somewhere else. Check out the pictures.
I'm trying to upload pictures but it wont do it. Keeps giving the message, "Upload of file failed". Is it because they are 2.4mb? I don't know how to shrink them lol.

Woot woot loaded them in paint and resaved them like you said, worked like a charm lol.

2.4 meg for a fuckin crack? Sheesh.

To resize them, shit dude, just open them in MS Paint, or any other editor. Then re-save them as lower quality OR a different format.

Altogether this is not sounding to good for Mr. Olav; I am sad to see his products be of low quality? I've always thought his stuff was top notch. There any kind of warranty on it? It's a year old for christs' sakes.

I talked to aaen, they said if it cracks again immediately contact them and tell them what is happening and that you got it from jon stevens at got speed racing. they will probably fix it, but they might exchange it.

nope, if it happens again call them, they want to see where its breaking. it might be from snow dust or could have just been a bad weld? but they said to contact them.

looks like a weld failure, seems as the weld is off to the side of the original seam, also not a proffessional lookin weld at most

What does the vertical tab do Mud, rest on something in sled? Weld crack directly above it may be a result of stresses placed on that area by tab. Weld quality isn't all that great, but sufficient from what I can see to hold.

I'm confused lol. Should I call them, or should I weld it again and see if it breaks again before I call them? I don't mind welding it again but if it breaks somewhere else again I'm gonna be fuckin livid.

Yes the strap is welded on both sides of the pipe and goes down, it rests on a rubber ball and springs hold it down onto the rubber. You can see the strap on the bigger picture.

Edit: On a side note, I'm currently running my stock pipe and Aaens silencer. Fucker is louder than with Aaens pipe on it. Almost annoying.

I welded it and rode it, and when I rode it it broke somewhere other than where I welded it. I'll call them now.

She told me to send it to them and they'll reweld it. It's gonna cost me what 30 bucks to send it to them and a week without it, no fuckin way. I told her I'm going to weld it again and if it breaks then I'll send it to them. If they were gonna replace it that's one thing, but I can fuckin reweld it myself. Not real happy with Aaen right now, this is the second pipe I've bought new from them plus my efi chip for the RXL and a fuel pressure regulator and a couple clutching components.

If it happens again then I will have welded it 4 times. She said if they couldn't reweld it they'd replace it and I'm sure with 4 new welds on it they'd probably replace it?

you would like to think so.

i wonder if its from snow dust? hot pipe getting hot/cold from snow dust, then back to hot in a flash, over and over, hundreds of times a day. the stock pipes have heat sheilds on them, part of there function is to keep this from happening.

i'm thinkin like vertical escape, if the tab is mounted solid without the springs or isolation giving movement, stress will crack it, and that will be beside a weld, what about covering the area with a thin piece of sheet metal overlapping the crack and welding that up

There is no doubt in my mind, that is a stress fracture and probably caused by the mounting tab. If you open up the pic and look closely you can see that the crack in the first pic was started at the right side tab weld. It moved upwards toward the centerline of the pipe. Looks like the vibration of the pipe want to pull upwards while the mounting tab holds it down. It also looks like if you reweld the centerline of the pipe you would need to make a consistent pass that would be at least 12" long (6" or more from each side of the tab) There are going to be microfractures going down that weld that you cannot see and they will probably break again. (is that the problem you have been having when you need to reweld it?)

It looks like the tab should be mounted to the underside of the pipe away from the weld. If Aaen won't do anything about it I'd try to move the tab to the underside of the pipe and see if that helps.

^^ No shit lol. The other places I've welded haven't broke yet. I welded with a mig welder though as I have no access to a tig welder. Still haven't welded it yet but hopefully should have a few minutes to do it before the end of the week.

Ha, Its funny how I only think and make posts like that when I'm somewhat sleep deprived for a few days. (I've been sleeping about 4-6 hours a night this week). I was analyzing one of our product hanging wires at work today and thinking about how to calculate the elastic stretch that has occured in the wire so far this year.
