I just finished changing my steering post on my ultra so I thought I would put up some pictures to show you how it went. I first tried to change it with the motor still in the sled but I couldn’t get the wrench to stay on the bottom bolt if you had a second set of hands you can change the post no problem without having to pull the motor. A guy at work said I should have wrapped some electrical tape around the bolt head to make it a snug fit. I will try this next time if it comes up again
With the motor in the sled I removed my exhaust pipes and my carbs I have 2 10” socket extensions and a 9/16” swivel socket to get down to the tie rod end which has a nut and bolt going though it, they are both 9/16 by the way.
Here is a picture of the nut and bolt I mentioned before
well you are there you might want to change your tie rod ends as it would suck to have to go back and do it later.
I also didn’t mind pulling the motor as I have to rebuild my water pump because there is coolant coming out of the weep hole which will be easier on my back with the motor on the bench.
