Default What's Everyone Doing To Their Sleds This Summer?

Greetings Programs,

So what's everyone doing to their favorite ride? Who's modding, who's not? Any Upgrades? Those long sweltering days can be mighty productive if doing a drop and roll on the chaincase. No hurry, cool in the garage.....

So I had the bellypan installed on my $500 XCR-800, 2000 model. The Pol dealership charged me $980 for labor, on a 16 hour(?) job, and the shop rates are $125 per hour (not the $150 per hour I quoted you Madcow), so as you can imagine, I keep my mouth shut, wrote the check and got out of there as fast as I could go.
The engine runs, but still needs to be rebuilt. To this end I have all the parts to rebuild the water-pump (only part on the XCR's that isn't 5k mile bulletproof), and a sheet of 304 stainless 0.065" thick for the mounting brackets for my 2002 EDGE suspension.
With the new bellypan and associated parts, I had them install all new bearings and seals on both the jackshaft and driveshaft. So those are good. I need to pull the motor to make the suspension swap easy, and obviously to open up the motor and see what is needed. Definitely will go through the Mikuni rack and rebuild all the carbs.
My intention was to keep everything dead stock, but after looking at Bikeman's porting page, I dunno. Boy when I saw the price ($250.00) per jug, it made my sphincter pucker so hard you couldn't have driven a flax seed up it with a 20 pound sledgehammer. Ouch! Prices! Did I say O-U-C-H?!
Ok, well, there is a guy known as THE guy to do this, but last year he was charging $200 per, and if I wanted a long-life machine, I should exchange the jugs for newly machined and nic'ed jugs. Then it'd be like brand new.
I want to get a BrTech hood in the translucent smoke color. A new seat cover, and a couple pieces of plastic should do me good. I think I may exchange the current bars with a '99 since they are roughly 2" higher.
I'll do some trick stuff like 7075 Al spindles (I have a horizontal and vertical mill and lathe), plus I am seriously considering a Lincoln TIG welder to make up some Ti trailing arms and undercarriage. It's nice to have an engineer as a friend, I'll see about getting a copy of Solidworks and have him check my calcs.
Beyond that, a 136" x 1.35" lugged track should do me proud.

So what are you louts and loutesses gonna do?

I'll unveil mine as season gets closer. I can say I've found/fixed the bog in engine after engine gets well warmed up, seems temp sensor was bad. Replaced that and engine seems fine when well warmed up.

Other than that, Escape will stay under wraps until fall....

Not a damn thing to the sled. I'm happy with it just the way it is.

I dont mean to start anything here Rock....but do you really think a 700 XCSP is going to beat a piped ultra across the lake?

I mean is the rest of it stock too? (700)

I am finally going to get the different gears in Stormy and hopefully by winter have another sled. Thats all.

Depends on the length of the race and weight of the driver ;) it can be done... especially since studly has a reputation of swigging some crown before the races...

Harry, he beat me by half a sled length......I was catching up when we ran out of lake. With some tunning to the clutch on the 700 VES it really comes alive. I also when down two jet sizes since it was running really fat!

I am sure Dudly will have another version of the race, but he just barely beat me.

Glen... we do have a half mile drag strip down the road and a 1/8 mile in the back yard... bring that thing up and let's do some tuning!

Surprisngly i have not really done anything to sleds this summer, and dont much plan on it unless i find a good 98 rmk tunnel for the cheap..

Thinking im either gona try and get the pipes fit under the mxzx hood, or im going to part it out. Dont know yet, too early to decide seeing as how i cant sell any sled parts at this time.
