Default Group ride in Boise area this winter

So what do you guys think of doing a group ride in the Boise area?
We normally have absolutely killer snow in mid January through Feburary/March,
and I can get you into much less beat up areas than the normal Togwotee areas that you guys have hit in previous years.
There is still spring riding later, but the mid season snow is normally just so much better.
I know it's early, but this way we can plan it and do it right.
I have no problem playing tour guide, Then there is the tequela afterwards, of course.

Um, this is, of course, assuming that you guys aren't afraid of being stuck all day while Vert and I ride circles around you and throw snow...... lol

I'm up for getting stuck. I'm pro at it.

Problem is Jamie's due Feb. 11 +/- 4 days. Gotta be early January for me at least.

I could be down if there are enough to share the ride. I'm hoping to do a trip west right after the first of the year, just figured I'd wait till time got closer to pick a place. Can't be too far into January though because I plan to do the UP trip first week of Feb again. I'm waiting on geezers excuse for this ride.

Early Jan is good with me.
That's why I wanted to get this started now, so that we would be able to actually get it worked out.

For getting stuck, it's OK if you are the SKS (Stuck King Special)
I look at it in the same way we did things in the military,
We go in together and we come out that way as well.
I do stop and count heads etc, get people unstuck, and do the normal stuff one would expect from a good leader.
No one left behind, EVER.

Oh ya, My wife will be riding with too.
But don't worry, I taught her well and she can ride better than a lot of guys I know.

Hey Vert, what do you think? You in?

Trust me, you've already done your part, and you don't want to see what childbirth does to that thing .......

All depends on how this project is going by then. SHOULD be winding down and finishing up over here around that time, depending on when it is during Jan.

Otherwise I'll try to make it.

See the problem is simple, if I'm working over on East side of WY. it's a PITA to go just about anywhere to ride when I only have 1-2 days off. Then if I'm home it's kind of senseless to drive for hours to ride when I've got some of the best riding in WY within 30 minutes drive.

Drive 4-8 hours to ride for a day or 2 VS drive 30 minutes 2 days in a row to ride from sunrise to set ......... which would you do?

That's true.
I saw that once...... The doctor wouldn't even give me any pain killers for the horror of watching.

Exactly,
I don't do the drive to Togwotee and all that for the same reason.
Drive 5 or so hours to ride trails and try to find my way around where others have beat it to shit, or drive 1 hour to ride secret powder stashes and good stuff.
It's a no brainer.

Ok that is completely understandable. But you need to grab your nutz and come ride with the members sooner or later.:p Maybe you should host an Alpine ride, I loved riding in Alpine last year.

Alpine is good riding ....... but it also gets crowded. Range I ride and know is the southern end of the same range and with the exception of 1 weekend a season I've never seen more than a few sleds over a weekend.

We typically ride out of Beaver unless it's early/late season.

A little bit better/closer view of our riding area with some locations ID.

Dempsey Plateau on left side, Commissary Ridge toward center, and Oyster Ridge to right. Pretty much just pick your poison as to what terrain you want to ride in ........ and dodge the trees/stumps.

Yellow line is Forest Boundary of BTNF ..... same as Alpine.

That is probably the funniest thing I have ever heard you say. Just cause you live out there doesn't mean you can ride.

Bring it!

I've never seemed to have a problem getting stuck ........ rides when I haven't been are usually days when I do more shooting vid/pics because of a sled problem. Even a couple of those days have resulted in stucks.

Come on out Cuzz, we'll give Devils Hole a shot. LOL ..... Getting in is breeze, getting out however can be a bitch....

Note: It's NOT marked on any maps, don't bother looking.......LOL.

Slanteye likes staying out past dark, don't let him lead though or you'll end up running a frozen river in the dark!!

Actually to get in/out of the Hole you have to run part of the way over a frozen creekbed.

NO NO NO... that was Jay.

I said go left and he took off the the right. That happened two times. Once before we got in deep and the other time when we came up to the river. If we would have continued to the right before he stopped us and told us to turn around we would have hit open water and rapids.

Boise is a long two day drive from Chicago. Mapquest says almost 24 hours and that does not include stops. Call it 28 hours of go go go driving. Anything less than a week long trip I would probably have to pass. What about all meeting around Tim's place? SD could make the drive east and the rest of us could make the longer drive west. I like the idea of riding an area that you guys are familiar with but like Cuzz, I like to have my own sled and really do not want to fly and rent. Early January would probably work for me also but I need to be home for New Years Eve.

If everyone was agreeable, I'd certainly provide guiding for the weekend. If not me for some unforeseen reason, Jason can take everyone without a problem. Like SD, we leave no one behind.

Rentals is tough, nearest I'm aware of that I could get some decent rates on would be in Evanston @ Yamaha.

Lodging wouldn't be an issue, we have a brand new Best Western that just opened this spring.

I enjoyed flying and renting last year, but I won't be doing it again. I'll be pulling my sled this year so I can ride something I'm at home with. I'm down for a week out west homies. That's the only way it could be worth the drive.
