Default compression tested...?

over the past weekend i had a guy stop by to pick up my old POO 440, and he did a compression test on her. Sled had lil over 10k miles and tested 141psi in each cyclinder...not bad

but while he was looking over sled i used the compression tester on my new sled(99 indy500) to see whats left in her. Sled/engine have 4333 miles on them, nothing ever been repaired.

clutch side came up to 132psi and other was 141 psi.

I know thats not a bad #, but ive heard that a greater than 5% difference is bad...correct?

what should i expect with this engine? will i make it thro the season? should i just rebuild top end now?

but if you re-ring now you will save a cylinder and not need pistons.

Unless you grenaded it, I can rebuild it for you. I have a 95XP800, very familiar with the LRV from 'Doo.

You mean SBT? Why not use their no fault warranty? What went bad? Counterbalance shaft? Crank? Rod?

they dont know how to build motors is what went bad.

they had sealant blocking one of the coolant passages for one of the cyclinders. So slowly one half the motor was getn eaten up....

Yea i ment SBT

As long as the crank is in good condition you can salvage the lower end. Just clean then up real good and get rid of any excess metal shavings. Any areas where there is anything sticking up or something file or sand it down and make sure all the shavings are cleaned up. Then grab yourself a set of pistons and get those jugs bored and honed and put it back together.

That looks like water ingestion, not "blocked coolant passages". Besides, no water travels through the cases, just the cylinders so the areas you circled don't mean squat. Water comes in the PTO end of the head, fills the head water jacket, and drops through the domes and across into the little 6 inch piece of hose into the head pipe. What travels through the holes in the domes fills up the cylinders and comes out the other side of the head and exits the other fitting on the head and out to the through-hull fitting, as well as the exhaust mani.

I'm not sure if I explained it correctly, but I have the cooling diagram at home. Either way, no water passes through the cases.
