Default what octanes???

what octanes should be ran in sleds?

i know some of the larger sleds, especially turbos will require High octane. But what about the 440s, 500s, and 600s?

should i use regular, mid, high, octane boosters...yada yada

Unless it states specifically on the engine, use regular.

yea i have no manual, but im sure it might say under hood.

Yea i know with my standup jet ski its not good to run high octane or race gas. Makes engine run toooooo hot and prematurally kills engine.

thanks guys

my sled is a Polaris indy 500 RMK if that makes any difference. Someone was telling me that the RMK might be setup way different than a regular 500.

that 500 of yours would be fine on 87, but if your getting E10 87 I'd suggest going a little higher. I've always ran 91+ in my sleds.

87 Octane will be fine, keep in mind that octane is a measure of resistance to premature ignition. It is not the measure of a fuel's quality. So you will only need to increase the octane of your fuel if your engine is knocking.

I'm cheap with oil, but never fuel. Premium in all my machines.

Your wasting your money and your sleds power... Good oil would be the better investment.

I don't trust fuel that's been sitting in tanks since summer.

Well you shouldn't, you should buy from reputable gas stations as much as possible.

Sorry Bryan but the only reason gas would lose octane is if its not in an cool air tight area. When its in a cool air tight area the lighter components of the gasoline, that happen to add octane rating like butane, cannot evaporate and cannot escape. This is why they seal gasoline in air tight barrels for racing fuel. Then you are advised to store it in a cool dry place. So actually a gas station isn't the worst place to store gas for long periods, however keep in mind that more people need 87 Octane than 91 or 89 octane, so in reality, those two grades will probably sit longer than the 87 octane by far.

I hear plenty of stories of people getting bad gas, I don't think it's worth it. It makes me feel better, maybe not you, but it does me. Fuck it, to each their own. I give up on the oil debate bullshit too.

I've always run 89 octane with E10 or 90~91 octane straight. No issues. I always run good oils.

These threads come up often.

I've used AVgas in my first sled, a fan-cooled 440 Sport GT Polaris. Used it in both my boats, a 90 hp Evinrude and 175 hp Johnson. I mix is 50:50 with the crappy reg here to bring up the rating to ~96 for my XCR.

It doesn't run hotter, it won't hurt anything, I've never seen a dynamometer sheet showing any loss of power running a higher rating fuel. The point is run what you need or what you want.
