Default 1998 Polaris Trail

Reliable machine... xtra 10.. not a tank... what do you guys think of them?
I've never owned the gen2 chassis and thinking about getting one. Just over 5000 miles on original engine. I know it's a very reliable engine but should I look past it considering it has 5000 miles?

488's were solid, if its the right price and you want it, take a shot at it, it will be a good sled for ya.

My 86 indy400 has been my backup sled/ loner for friends. I want something newer and this kinda fits the bill. I think I could get it for $700. I'm going to look at an Indy500 tonight in the same chassis.

I've ridden a few of those in my day. When I had my 583 I think almost all the city kids had Trails, 500s,or XLTs. For $700 it's a good loaner sled and can be ridden by almost every skill level rider.

for what its worth that would be an evolved chassis....Gen2s came around in 1999

Evolved chassis was a nice chassis to wrench on due to the removable side panels. But, with age the rubber plugs with the nuts in them will seize to the screws. I have invented a few swear words the trail trying to remove the panels.....

The evolved is part wedgie isn't it? I'm still looking for something to replace my dinosaur backup. Anyone finds any deals on something newer than a 98 and less than $1500 please let me know. Of course it has to be less than say 200 miles away, and I'm not getting an aggressive chassis. I'm pretty open on the engine, I don't want anything bigger than a 600 and it has to be a polaris. If I drag my feet another month I should have enough saved for a newer 550 supersport or something lol.

My parents each had a 1998 Indy trail touring, actually my mom still has hers. Only thing we had a problem with was the coil wire rubbing on the engine. Wore through the wire and lost spark to one cylinder, even though it ran really shitty it still ran on one cylinder.

There are a couple local I'm still thinking about. Kinda want to wait until we get back from Florida. I found a nice 98 Indy500 with reverse I want. Hopefully its still there in a week and a half.

I have a 98 XCF and its a ok ride....Good for a non aggressive chick(like my woman) or a young dude..not a very fun loaner or back up. It didn't get rode much last year so I took it on a 60 mile ride through the Jordan Valley trail last march. No fun, and I was passed by the trail groomer..LOL

I sent him a 2001 Edge XCF, 181 miles. The guy only wanted 1500 bucks. All I heard was "But Missy will kill me!" Look at him now.

I've decided to wait a month before purchasing another sled. Should anyone find a deal close to me that is one of them too good to be true deals, I might change my mind lol. I'll be in Florida for 5 days then when I get back I'm going to sell the Indy400 and Kitty Kat, then the search will resume.
