Default Engine swap

I have a 97 bearcat widetrack 550 with the motor gone. I am getting an EXT 580 EFI tomorrow and want to put the 580 EFI into the Bearcat. I have looked at the parts diagram for both machines and the only problem I may have with the swap is putting the fuel pump onto the Bearcat tank. My question is -- Does the fuel pump have to go into the tank, or can it be mounted outside of the tank and connected to the fuel pickups using gas line through the tank.

Well what you're asking is a really tough question to answer. One because you are talking about modifying a previous system outside of its original design. But on that note, I think as long as you are taking the fuel from the bottom of the tank and filtering it you shouldn't have any problems. However be careful because the pump may still need to be in its up-right position to pump properly depending on the pump style. If it is a positive displacement pump as it should be though, there should be 0 issues in my opinion.

If i can't modify the tank to fit the pump,I was going to fabricate a mount outside the tank so the pump can mount flat like it was on the original machine.Thanks.

Should be mounted inside as the gas also cools the pump.

Any when the tank is almost empty how is it going to cool the pump?

Because the pump is at the bottom of the tank, it cools all the way down.
No one that I ever knew let an EFI system run out of gas either.

From the microfiche they show 2 pickups going down into the tank with the pump mounted on a plate that mounts on the top of the tank.

I got the engine in and the pump installed into the Bearcat tank.Had it running today and it sounds great. Tomorrow I will mount the computer and rebuild the clutch. All I need then is more snow. Thanks for your help and HAPPY SLEDDING.
