Default Remove thermostat?

Anyone ever done this? 02 Edge X 700. I'm hoping it keeps my temps lower. I'm pretty much out of ideas besides a new snowflap.

Wouldn't you need some sort of reducer? It would flow too freely.

Did you remove your bulkhead cooler, or was that someone else?

I did not remove my bulkhead cooler. It currently has the bulkhead cooler, the tunnel strip coolers, and I added a tunnel extension from an IQ with a cooler built in. The one I added helped, but it still runs warmer than I like. From 03 on they added a plate-like cooler for the rear, because of this very problem. Mine lacks said extra cooler.

If removing the t-stat and changing snow flaps doesn't help, I will add running board coolers.

Holy shit if you add running board coolers that thing is going to have alot of extra weight in coolers and coolant haha..

As far as a "reducer" I dont see why it shouldnt work by just removing the t-stat. The 98 xc 700 never came with a t-stat. I know the next years starting having them but the 98 xc 700 still works just fine. I dont think it would hurt anything if you took it out so its worth a try.

What temperature is the sled running at?

How low does the snow flap hang?

it would run just fine without a stat, just take a few more minutes to warm up in the morning.

I didn't run a T-stat on my PSI engine, but I wouldn't recommend not running one. Your sled will be a bit more finicky without it. Look for a skidoo summit tunnel cooler on ebay, one of the 31" long ones(12-13" or so wide). Should be plenty of cooling and you can get some pretty cheap.

I just can't believe that what comes stock PLUS the extension cooler isn't enough. Irritates the shit out of me in fact.

The problem is the tunnel strip coolers, notice that year's coolers are a lot smaller than other years, hell my 440 probably has more cooling. (tunnel coolers are only 1/2 or 3/4" thick but 3-4" wide)

Are you getting good flow? Restrictions, blockages, weak pump?

Appears to have good flow. Exchangers heat right up. It's as if there's plastic covering the coolers. Fuckin weird.

Are the 700's known for overheating, or what is going on here? How cool do you need it to run? Get a lowhanging snowflap for sure. If you aren't catching all the snow flying off the track, you're screwed. My sled overheats really quick when I'm experiencing snowflap problems.

Put some scratchers on it or a longer snow flap; the coolers need snow on them to work.

Hrm, and i only have 2 coolers on the sks. 1 bulkhead cooler and the one square in the tunnel, never overheats or runs hot unless i'm in low snow conditions.

i don't understand why the edge would run hot, and does it do it even in powder conditions?

If you'd like to try out scratchers, I've got an old set I can bring with on Friday. Just need a 3/8" hole somewhere towards the front of the rails to mount them.

I have scratchers, didn't feel I needed them last time out. I felt there was plenty of snow for cooling, and everyone else's sled was fine. Andy, did you feel any of the snow conditions were bad enough to warrant use of scratchers?
