Default Need Clutching Help

I have a 1997 440 XC that is in desperate need of clutching help.
It engages at 5,000 RPMs and tops out at about 7,800 to 8000 RPMs. The sled has a horrible bog after it engages. I put on a new belt about 200 miles ago and that seemed to help, but now it is acting like its old self again.

Do you think my primary and secondary are out of alinement? Should it be shimmed or shimms taken out?

What is a good gear/primary/secondary spring and weight set up to make the sled pull hard out of the hole. I really don't care about the top end, if I can go 75 thats fast enough for me I just want to get there quick.

I definaltey know the current set up is not stock. I bought the sled used about 5 years ago and it had been tinckered with.

If you think it has been tinkered with then the stock info we have on it won't help us at all.

Could you give us a little more info?

-What color spring is in the primary?
-What weights are in the primary?
-What color spring in the secondary?
-What Helix is in the secondary?
-What gears you are running?

Your sled also needs to be in good running shape to take advantage of clutching... if the engine is tired, worn, or out of adjustment it will run like dog poop even with solid clutchwork.

Are you running a new belt and if so what is your belt deflection!! Too much deflection will cause the sled to have a bad bogg on take off! It's like trying to leave in second gear.
Like OCR stated, Have you cleaned your clutches "this year"!

Very fun sled and there are a few set ups for them. HP is est to be 95 +/- from what I've read on them. Peak hp is 8200rpm but you can run these up to 8400rpm WOT on long runs. But I wouldn't recomend long lake runs with this sled.

Change your belt to a Polaris 074 and have the primary reshimed for .020'' clearance with a new belt. For clutching there is alot of combos you can use so depending on what your into. If your into the 660ft drag change your gearing to 21/41, stock is 22/41. Stock jetting is 360 so you could probably get away with 340s (-12C) or 350s. Just with warmer temps you will want to rejet, these sleds dont like being jetted to fat when its warm. Set you airscrews to 1.5 or 2turns out form lightly seated. Next, your going to want to get into contact with Hot Seat Performance.

Primary
HSP X (49.5g) heavy tipped or something similar
HSP White or Black

Secondary
HSP 50/36S w/ .030'' shim under the snap ring
HSP White #3 or Orange #3

This set-up is aggressive and if you run the HSP Black with the White or Orange it has a little more bite. It should enguage at 5500rpm and hit 8000rpm out of the hole and pull to 8200 in the short runs and over a distance you can see it pull up to 8400rpm. Belt deflection should be set to 1.25''...

if you hit the gas hard out of the hole, does it start to rev up, then bog down a little then climb back up in rpms? sounds like to big of a helix, or could be dirty or out of sync carbs
