Default Seaswirl

I have a chance to buy a 1993 Seaswirl 175se with a Johnson 140 outboard for $2400.00. This boat has a new lower unit, water pump, prop, starter solenoid, battery, and was just tuned at marina. The problems are that the trailer needs a winch, the trim for the engine leaks down fast, and the tach jumps around. I am thinking just seals for trim, and maybe wiring for tach.

It seems like a good deal to me from looking around at similar boats that sell for around $4000.00, but NADA tells me average resale is $2495.00.

Is this a decent boat for my family, and what do you guys think it is worth?

Sounds like minimal work for a nice boat. The older two-stroke outboards do eat a lot of gas. I guess that doesn't matter depending on how you use it or the size of your local lake.

Does it include a cover? Can you test drive it before you buy it? Any extras?

I will test drive it tomorrow. The boat will be used in the Rock river, and Pleasant lake WI. witch is small. Most times it will have 3 adults, 1 kid, and a baby on board. Just want to float, boat, and pull a tube. It comes with a cover, Bimini top, anchor, old prop, and a spear trailer tire.

Sounds like a good deal. I'd go for it. Gas wouldn't concern me if you're not constantly cruising.

When you start getting into boats that age and size, so much of the vaule is determined by the condition and how it was cared for. If the boat is clean and the water test goes well, I think it is a fair price. If you see alot of little stuff wrong due to neglect and/or poor maintenance then no price is a good deal as far as I am concerned. I have boated on the Rock River before and would want a relaible boat due to the crowds and current, especially with kids on board. The pictures look nice but seeing in person may change everything. Probably didn't tell you much you didn't already know.

Yes sir Mudly. Illinois isn't exactly known for it's abundance of lakes. Personally I prefer rivers. If I got a wild hair up my ass I could go check out the oil slick on the gulf from where I boat if I had the time, money, and enough Budlight.

I'm skeered of anything with water under it, especially if I'm on ice rather than a bridge. Homie dont play that.

All you gotta do is grab your sack and give the bitch gas. I dont go out on the ice till i know that its safe. Dont wanna loose any friends or loose myself. Be a real shitty way to end a good day or night of riding.

Thanks for the posts guys, sorry it took me so long to post, but I have looked to see your responses. You can call me a drive by poster. I did end up buying the boat after checking it over, test driving, and tuning. It looks like it was kept inside when not in use, and for being 18 years old is in good shape, but needs a good cleaning. Compression is good, just needed to adjust idle, and idle air so it would stop dying at idle. We went out earlier this evening , and everyone was all smiles even the gas station. I thought cuzz was talking about me eating gas, and the size of my lake. Nope he did say the boat. My lord it is worst than the Ferd! Even so we are very happy with both of them.

The boat trailer has a Michigan permanent trailer plate. Can I roll with that?
