so the "president" is going on a little trip, taking 3000 people and at a cost of 200 million per day.
my mom used to always joke about when we stayed at a hotel as a kid if it was a bad one she would tell people"well it was no taj mihal". 500 rooms at the taj mihal are being rented for this trip.

any bets if he comes back?

This is just another thing that proves he unfit to be prez.

3,000 people and $200 mil a day... I think this is his way of saying "screw you"

he can stop in kenya and pick up his Birth certificate while he headed that way.

India doesnt even want him to come...LOL

I actually hadn't heard about that one, still a waste of money.

Now seriously Rock, get your head out of your ass. When someone says, obama is doing something wrong, you can't just go and say, well Bush did it.

"Here's how the costs of a presidential visit breaks down.

"Whether Bush wears the hat of Commander in Chief or head of
Republican Party--he is always president. So the Government pays for
100 percent of the President's transportation on Air Force One,
regardless of the trip's purpose.

"A ride on the presidential jet costs anywhere from $34,000 to $56,000
per hour.

"The government also pays all of the expenses for air support,
security like secret service and communications. Experts say those
expenses are hard to track because they're divided among the Pentagon
and transportation department.

"Taxpayers also pick up the food, hotel, and car rental tabs for most
of his entourage.

"The White House says the average cost runs from $22,000 to $59,000
per trip.

"When it comes to the fundraising portion of the trip like President
Bush's speech at Grandover, the candidate's campaign and the national
political party pay back the White House for costs like cars and hotel
rooms for advance workers."

Here's a list of countries George W. Bush visited as President, with frequencies in parentheses:

part of the presidents job is to go around the world. i get that, every president has done it. but not one of them has had such an ego trip like this turd. show me one president that took 3000 people rented over 500 rooms in a hotel. 45 airplanes just to fly everyone, 3000 people how many cars does that take to move around?

does bush salute the flag?

what a horrible job of singing.

is bush born in america?

when my dad dies, is it bush or obama that implimented an estate tax so that 55-60% of his estate will be taken in taxes? obama

who put into action many fees and taxes on energy so the cost of electricity, coal, natural gas, will be passed onto me the consumer. so it will cost more to heat my home and power my home. the local city is run by tax money, so it costs more to run the city now and where does that money come from? me. i think obama did this.

who is letting tax credits expire that will cost most familys 2500 dollars a year more in taxes? bush? nope not in office at the time.

this president is like the george jefferson moved into the white house. and wheezy isnt stopping him at all.

did you ever see the bush girls during a press conference acting silly and misbehaving, and then interupt there mom giving a speech?

this ass is living like we owe him something. a bullet is about what he is worth.

Madcow is your dad worth more than a million?

Most relatively simple estates (cash, publicly traded securities, small amounts of other easily valued assets, and no special deductions or elections, or jointly held property) do not require the filing of an estate tax return. A filing is required for estates with combined gross assets and prior taxable gifts exceeding $1,500,000 in 2004 - 2005; $2,000,000 in 2006 - 2008; and $3,500,000 effective for decedents dying on or after January 1, 2009.

estate tax wont effect you if not.

And how long has the magical tax cuts been in effect?since 1980?

wheres the benifit? and to whom has benifited?

Clue......millionaires
I find it hillarious that Americans think tax cuts are the magical elixer thats the cure all......

I dont care about anything other than this administration has brought on huge debt.
locally dayton will bring on more debt.
taxes stiffel growth. if my local taxes hadnt gone up 250$ per month in the last 7 years that is a car payment or an addition to the house or a sled. or reduced other debt to buy more products. take 3000 people in my town and remove 250$ worth of tax load and see what happens. its proven by americans spending trends they dont save money.

mn could cut spending and programs big time by turning alot of stuff over to the private sector.

this will be a great test, we had a "republican" gov. for the last couple terms. so lets see how much your paycheck goes up now. mn. will be a miny washington is my prediction.

i was mad at bush when he spent money. he spent 35 million on the schips programs. in mn and new york the schips programs was so over funded it was abused horribly. people that didnt even have kids were getting coverage. but guess what, bush isnt in office any more. so the guy that is signing the checks is getting the blame.
things like that bother me. i dont care who is in power, until the federal and state goverments get back to there role of providing structore and safety, get out of schools, get out of business for the most part. we dont need the goverment telling us who we can hire, what needs to be taught, how we can invest our money. I want the goverment to build roads, provide me with clean water, and sanitation. and defend me from foriegn or domestic enemies. after that leave the the heck alone and let me have MY money.

i didnt give bush a pass on some of his spending thats what i am saying. there is a big difference in the person though and that is where i give some passes.

i dont mind paying some tax for basics. but after that its just tax and spend.

Republicans take aim at cost of Obama’s trip to India
By Holly Bailey
Is President Obama's trip to India really going to cost $200 million a day?

That's the number making the rounds among the president's conservative critics, including potential 2012 Obama challenger Mike Huckabee and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), as the president takes off Friday for a 10-day trip to Asia.

Huckabee made the claim to Fox News on Tuesday night (citing "reports") and in the social media sphere. "Reports say that Obama's trip to Mumbai, India tomorrow will cost taxpayers $200 million dollars a day - come to think of it, that's much less than Obama's been spending here," Huckabee wrote in a Facebook message Tuesday night (misstating the day of Obama's departure). "So maybe it's not a bad thing he's leaving."

On Wednesday, Bachmann repeated the claim on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360." "Within a day or so the president of the United States will be taking a trip over to India that is expected to cost the taxpayers $200 million a day," Bachmann told Cooper. "He's taking 2,000 people with him. He'll be renting out over 870 rooms in India. And these are five-star hotel rooms at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel. This is the kind of over-the-top spending. It's a very small example, Anderson."

The only problem: The claims appear to be wrong.

The numbers evidently originate with the Press Trust of India, whose report was linked on the Drudge Report and picked up by Fox News host Glenn Beck. The news agency also wrongly said that the White House had blocked off the entire Taj Mahal Palace hotel for Obama's visit and that the U.S. was stationing 34 warships—roughly 10 percent of the naval fleet--off the coast of Mumbai for security reasons.

The agency attributed the $200 million figure to an anonymous Indian government official. It didn't attribute the warships claim to any source.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell called the warship claim "absolutely absurd." "That's just comical," he said at Thursday's Pentagon news briefing. "Nothing close to that is being done."The White House, meanwhile, issued a blanket statement that the $200 million figure "had no basis in reality" and was "wildly inflated." The press office declined to disclose the trip's actual cost, citing "security concerns."

In a news briefing Thursday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs also refused to release numbers, but he told reporters point-blank, "We are not spending $200 million a day."

The nonpartisan FactCheck.org took up the issue, too, saying that even though the administration won't release a price tag, there is "simply no evidence to support" a claim of $200 million a day. One reason to doubt the report, according to the group: The entire war in Afghanistan costs $190 million a day.
That is not to say that some of the precautions for Obama's first presidential visit to India aren't possibly a tad over the top. As the BBC reports, Indian officials have been removing coconuts from any trees that Obama might walk under, to prevent anything from falling on the presidential head. And as London's Daily Telegraph notes, the country has deployed trained monkey catchers to prevent any "simian invasion" (a measure that Indian officials also took when President Bush visited in 2006).

Once again the cost of this was inflated by the conservitive lie machine....who would of thunk?

I dont think this is good spending for a country that is broke but damn......can we stop the lies?

so whats the cost then? 3000 people at 500 dollars round trip air fair=1.5 million.
3000 @ 100$ per night hotel stay, because they will be staying at a cheap hotel and doubling up=300000

3000 people @50$ perdium =150000 for food allowance.
3000 people figureing they are going to use buses and not small vehicles to keep costs down and there carbon foot print down. 50 people per bus = 600 buses, whats a bus cost to rent for a 10 hour day simply to pay the driver and fuel it would cost in america about 40$ per hour just to operate the bus. lets say 50/hr

thats another 300000 per day.
hotel300k+transportation300k+food150k that is 3/4 million per day assuming they travel with travelocity. ha!

If Rush says its true it must be!

Home:
Obama India Trip Cost Just Made Up By Conservatives
12:36 pm EST November 4th, 2010 | Conservative | 34 Comments

This is why its impossible to come to a bipartisan consensus with these people. They are just unrepentant liars.

Media Matters:

When Media Matters asked about the report, White House spokesman Matt Lehrich responded, “The numbers reported in this article have no basis in reality. Due to security concerns, we are unable to outline details associated with security procedures and costs, but it’s safe to say these numbers are wildly inflated.”

Snopes:

The information from that Indian article was quickly picked up and reported as fact by a number of media outlets in the U.S. and elsewhere, but its veracity is highly questionable. Any presidential trip abroad involves considerable expense to transport and house security officials and presidential aides and staffers, and those costs will likely be on the higher side for this trip since President Obama will be attending the G20 Summit in Seoul, South Korea, along with other world leaders (which requires the presence of additional numbers of U.S. government officials as well as heightened security). However, citing a cost figure of $200 million per day stretches credulity to the breaking point: That number would entail a total outlay of $400 million for the two-day visit (a whopping $2 billion if the cost were applied across the entire ten-day trip), and even if President Obama were accompanied by a prodigious 3,000-person entourage, with the U.S. government picking up the entire tab for all of them, the U.S. would have to be spending the unbelievable sum of $66,000 per person per day to reach that figure. Moreover, the only source for that dollar amount is a single foreign news report which quotes an anonymous Indian official (who likely is not privy to all the cost and security details of the president’s Asian trip).

Politifact finds the conservative lie about the cost of Obama’s India trip to be “False”:

James Gerstenzang, a former reporter who covered numerous foreign trips by presidents for the Los Angeles Times, laughed at the $200 million a day figure, which he guessed was probably “inflated by a factor of 10.” And the claim about the entourage of 3,000 also seems grossly inflated, he said. He noted that any members of the press traveling with the president pay their own way, so that’s not a cost borne by taxpayers.

FactCheck.org finds the conservative lie about Obama’s India trip to be untrue:

This highly doubtful claim originated with one Indian news agency quoting an anonymous source in Mumbai. The White House says it is “wildly exaggerated,” and there’s no evidence to support such a huge figure.

Sounds kind of like what they said about Obamacare when the CBO reported that it was going to actually cost $200,000,000,000 more than proponents originally claimed.

Here's some costs when Slick Willy was in office.

So how much did those trips cost? In the case of some Clinton trips, we have figures from a 1999 report by the U.S. General Accounting Office — now called the Government Accountability Office. The GAO said that Clinton’s trips to Africa, Chile and China in 1998 cost at least $42.8 million, $10.5 million and $18.8 million, respectively — not counting the still-classified cost of providing Secret Service protection.

In Africa, Clinton was accompanied by about 1,300 individuals — not including members of the Secret Service — representing the White House, the Department of Defense and other federal agencies. The president visited six countries in 12 days, which means the trip cost $3.6 million per day.

Clinton made the five-day Chile trip in order to attend the second Summit of the Americas — a meeting of 34 heads of state or governments from countries in the Americas — and to hold meetings with the president of Chile. About 600 individuals accompanied the president on the trip, which we calculated would have cost $2.1 million per day.

When Clinton visited China to conduct talks with the president of China, he brought along about 500 individuals. The trip lasted nine days, which works out to a little less than $2.1 million per day.

The total cost including Secret Service protection would of course be somewhat higher, but even doubling or tripling those figures and adding in an adjustment for inflation would not produce anything close to the figure given by the Indian news article for Obama’s trip.

Maybe the government should try GoToMeeting.com? They could get a FREE 30 day trial, and then it would be something like fifty bucks a month after that.

Definitely, even Obama couldn't figure out how to spend THAT much money. Who knows though? Somehow the government managed to spend $5000 for a toilet seat. Maybe they could spend $5000 a room for hotel stays?
